no guess not is it proven that super is no good then as ive been using it in both my evo`s for nearly 2 years

the only reason i say this is that when your out an about an u need fuel for whatever reason sometimes you cant locate v-power

ill use v-power from now on but as i say what about when u cant find any

nearly all tesco filling stations sell 99 now so with that and shell selling it then im sure youll be able to find some when out and about.

to give you an idea my mate had his 5 remapped on normal 97ron cos he couldnt be bothered to go out for vpower like i did and when ant was mapping it he had to take 7 degrees of ignition out of it :shock::shock::shock:

If you can't find v power then the next best thing is tesco 99 not sure if it's called that now thoughbut honestly Steve I wouldn't use unleaded unless it was an emergency

i was putting tesco 99ron in then they tore down the tesco`s by me so started using super so actually its been tesco up untill last say 4months

ill defo be using v-power from now on tho

I have put the odd £10 worth of Morrisons in when I am on the fuel light and I wouldn't get to the nearest Tesco or Shell. But then it is driven easily and using as little boost as I can (its hard )

guess you've been lucky and not thrashed the life out of it, the standard 't knock control is pretty good but I wouldnt rely on it to save my engine.....its not that good.

like I siad, just get it checked as is and you 'might' be ok.

Knocking (also called knock, detonation, spark knock, pinging or pinking) in spark-ignition internal combustion engines occurs when combustion of the air/fuel mixture in the cylinder starts off correctly in response to ignition by the spark plug, but one or more pockets of air/fuel mixture explode outside the envelope of the normal combustion front.

When unburned fuel/air mixture beyond the boundary of the flame front is subjected to a combination of heat and pressure for a certain duration (beyond the delay period of the fuel used),detonation may occur. Detonation is characterized by an instantaneous, explosive ignition of at least one pocket of fuel/air mixture outside of the flame front. A local shockwave is created around each pocket and the cylinder pressure may rise sharply beyond its design limits. If detonation is allowed to persist under extreme conditions or over many engine cycles, engine parts can be damaged or destroyed.

im not sure if i am right but from what i have read on here since i been about knocking is to do with the fuel spontaneously igniting rather than the spark plug doing it. so higher octane rating means the the more it can be compressed before this problem occurs.

so basically, use the higher octane fuel if you can and if you cant for whatever reason then drive like an old lady until you can get some.

im sure someone will along to correct me though as i am not entirely sure :blush:

higher octane fuel is more stable, the fuel being ignited before the sparkplug is preignition not knock, knock is when the fuel explodes instead of ignites, the det noise is two explosion sound waves hitting each other
