I've noticed a strange small constant whining or "huuuuuuuuuuuuuu" noise from the engine while cruising at around 70+mph in 5th or 6th gear, I can hear it both when on and off the accelerator. Performance is absolutely fine but that strange noise really annoys me...!!

I had a noise like that coming from my 5 last year, had it looked it said it was prop shaft bearings, same day I booked it in and before I made it back to the garage that day my transfer box blew. Lucky was under warranty and they got it fixed but wasn't what they told me in first place.

Thanks for all your kind replies, after a small investigation done by myself...I found that it's actually related to my clutch. The previous owner installed an "Organic Clutch" and the noise is there when the clutch is engaged, and noise disappears whenever I press down the clutch....

Could be. Best to get it to someone who can actually hear the noise and where the noise is coming from :)

Will do asap, errr it's the EXEDY Organic that the clutch is called.
Is the release bearing a serious issue...?

u say the noise happens at cruising speeds?? does that mean that the noise occurs when u got throttle at certain position?/

do you know what clutch you have in it mate? what fly wheel? cus some just seem to rattle whilst off throttle.. what pinpointed it to clutch? hard to get in gear, jumps out of gear, slips?
does you car still perform well ? if so why worry, its an evo every thing rattles and creeks, lol

When your driving is it a high pitch noise you can hear inside your car? Quick test for all is when in first and accelerating keep your hand flat on top of the gear lever change to 2nd and accelerate bit harder if it's transfer box or prop shaft you will feel the gear lever vibrate and listen for a slight rattle in the gear lever like linkage noise. Both noises will go away when clutch is pressed only happen when in gear and driving. Don't go far and don't go too fast, As no telling how long it will last if either of these are the issue. I did this test on my car and transfer box was the problem And it blew same day

gearbox out...? Not just the clutch you mean...?
Geez...better spare a day or two for the task.

No if it is the bearing, and I could well be wrong, you don't need to take the clutch out, the release bearing is in the gear box bell housing.
But get it diagnosed by a professional mec cos I don't want you to take your car apart and find out it's not that lol :)

always thought that if clutch release bearing was an issue it was when clutch was engauged.. may be different on a pull clutch tho!!!
wouldnt go pulling it apart yet tho get checked over by specalist..
if you have a 4 poster not a bad job, if doing on you back its a bastard....
