Here's a question for you all. As we all know the Evo had the pain in the arse system that's awesome called ayc where a desperate brain constantly adjusts power to wheels

Now does the impress have a similar system??? As far as I was aware ubaru owners are always going on about how they like their common car because they are controlling it and not a computer but I have just watched a rubbish program that told me otherwise and from what they described sounded like an Evo but talking about an impreza :s

I know that the type r came with a active central diff were you could change the power from front to back the most you could do was 80% rear . But not sure on the ayc ??

No impreza came with AYC
the only impreza's with DCCD were the

sti RA
wrx RA
type R

and 2003 up + sti's

Thanks for that I had a little read but don't understand too much. The dumbed it down on the program and explained what ayc does where if one wheel has all the traction it sends the power to that wheel which like I say is what ayc does but they were talking about an impreza. The program was classic cars and it's the rally episode if any of you have watched it. They also kind of slated the Evo too it only came fourth

I had an 05 sti which had the dccd (driver controlled central diff) and all it does is send more power front or rear depending on where you set it up to do, as the ayc sends power to an individual wheel, depending on which one has the most traction.

WRX type RA didn't have dccd, correct on the others though.

Phil74, has some good advice. Stuff like the chassis balance, low centre of gravity engine etc etc.

Must say mine was just an understeer monster though

correct - they had similar gearbox short ratio's that was i thinking

Ha I only pulled you up because my old car was a WRX Ra, it had crazy short gearing 130mph on the limiter in 5th :shock:

I swear it was more like a "5th and a half gear" too, the jump from 4th to 5th compared with 3rd to 4th was soo different.

I've said before, I jumped into a IV a couple years ago and it felt loads better on turn in and tight corners compared to my old Subaru. But like FQ has said I've heard people say imprezas are better etc, I think a lot of it is down to driving style/technique and how the cars are set up suspension, tyres and geo wise.

All the YouTube vids I find from "old" top gear episode with Tiff nedal etc rate the evo over the subarus.

But then again I can hardly talk as I don't have an evo yet, I'm collecting it Saturday :awesome: then I guess I can truly comment lol

I personally think and feel that evolutions are the better cars just the build quality
the drive and owning it, i do like an good spec impreza like a spec c
but they losing money every minute...
they are good fun for the money quite easy to maintain to the evo

Agree, mine was so limited in the tuning department. Held back by gearbox, brakes, just about everything lol. I'd done a lot to mine and was running a "true" 340bhp and that was its limit next would have been gearbox, ecu, injectors, turbo, brakes aka £10k+ even to push it up to something in the high 300's.

The later classics could take a bit more power, the new age impreza STI's are really good. I'd have a spec c too not keen on the rear spoiler though.

Hands down its te Evo all day for me it's just the program I watched earlier kind of wound me up as it wasn't really factual, what they described was ayc in what it does and I didn't know of the same kind of system on a Subaru, my brother tried telling me impreza's do have it but when I explained the dccd that it's driver controlled biast basically he refused to accept.

He had an 06 wrx a couple years ago and he isn't really a fan of evo's he says but why would he want to use my car :whistling: but he never gets to I can't trust him.

I think it is all down to personal opinion I just don't like being the same, I go to a cruise and people gorp at my car and say 'that's a sick car' but an impreza comes in and they shrug it off like a corsa because it's the norm. They are food cars but time and time again it's been proved the Evo is better

i had a uk turbo 2000 done 45k,it was standard wheni got it spent a fortune on it in the end owed be near £11k

i had that mapped and that produced 353 bhp, it was a rapid car
had sti version 6 box, apexi power fc...etc...
i do miss it in a way as i owned it for years but im glad i got my VIII MR

Very nice that looks great mine was a white pre facelift, hence it's weak gearbox. I had it strokered so was a 2.1 with apexi power fc, front mount etc

The box you had was the very best classic box, had specially treated gears that we're stronger. My friend has a Sti v5 (same box) running scooby clinic turbo at around 375bhp, but that's just about maxing it.

He's as excited as me about getting an evo, he's expecting a drive of mine as I owe him after he let me thrash his scoob round the murnpburgring last year :awesome:
