strange noise on my evo 6 help needed!!

my evo 6 has recently developed a strange noise from around the gearbox area,im going to explain the noise and symtoms the best i can so here goes.a few mornings ago i was enjoying my evo on the way to work when after a spirited drive down the carrage way i noticed on slowing down a noise was coming from the gearbox area now the noise sounded like something turning and it was speed related so as i was slowing down the rotating metal noise was getting slower however it didnt go whether the clutch was pressed or not.well i got to work a bit gutted as u do 6pm jumped in the car no noise?????drove it for a couple of days now and the noise comes and goes its not consistanst.i sent it to the garage checked rear diff etc but they wasnt very helpfull tbh.also what the car does do is like a surging effect when your going very slow or parking etc its got like a kangaroo effect to it,do any of you guys know any probs related to these symptoms?cars running just shy of 400hp any help would be much apreciated thanks

hmm tricky one that. hard to say without experiancing it.
as it doesent go when clutch is pressed id agree yes its drivetrain related but which part its hard to say.

i know mate all ive been doing is scratching me head lol ive got it booked in @ xtreme next week but even then the noise comes and goes so not sure if they will be able to hear it

Although its still sounds when clutch is engaged or disengaged don't rule out clutch, I've had it once b4 where pressure plate was totally fine but friction plate was foo bar causing metic sound when driving and judder as slow speeds.
best bet would be 4 axle stands and have in 1st gear so got a slow drive motion then have a listen

Strange if it comes and goes could just be a sticking brake galilee what the mileage on your evo and is it tunned

yep comes and goes ive been driving all day today been tatting with the car as i had a missfire so chaged and gapped my new plugs went on a bit of a drive car was mint no noises from the box and no missfires boosting all the way to just under 2 bar,then on the way home the noise started again really bad and i thought this is it its f****d then it just went i mean the noise was ther for 6-7 miles doesnt matter whether i go fast or slow its allways there (the faster i go the louder it gets though) the it just stopped,im just toatally lost matey????
