Strange hole on the gearbox?

Is it normal? Or I'm missing a cap?

Can't make out the hole but I'm guessing you mean the inspection hole and yes it should have a bung in it

It's an access/breather hole.
Should have a bung to stop water getting in, but its a tube with a 90 degree corner on the end
