Still not got it back, parts must be hard to get!!!

On the 21/04/10 I hit a hare in my Evo IV which i posted about on here, it broke the front bumper, O/S head light and indicator, oil cooler and washer bottle plus a couple of other small parts. I messed about for about a week trying to find 2nd hand parts but the prices i was getting back decided it was worth an insurance claim.
The car was collected from my house the day after i rang the insurance company and taken to their approved repair centre. Another week or so went by then I got a call to let me know that they had been authorised to repair it and the parts where ordered but they could take a little time to get as they had to be shipped from Japan.
About two weeks ago I got told that all the parts had arrived except the washer bottle which is not due in untill 26/06/10. I just wonder how much longer they're going to make parts for these cars and if insurance companies are going to start to write them off for small incidents such as this, as if that happens insurance costs are likely to go up.

i had a IV that i claimed insurance for when someone reversed into me insurance company sent to there body shop it took 3 months to get back then wheels rubbing front arches which never did before wish i not bothered claiming cost more in insurance cost over next few years than cost to repair

Sometimes it is better off repairing it out of insurance. Some times it is harder finding the parts. It is too early to find breakers that have bits for these in regular supply. It will be a few more years before they are available everywhere. That said, there were not many produced in the first place.

It's just one of those things.

Finally got it back today, i'd forgotten how fast it is. Just got a couple of jobs to do on it, the exhaust is blowing near the manifold so i've ordered a stainless manifold and elbow and occasionally it doesn't tick over very well and sometimes stalls so i'm going to give the idle control valve a good clean up, hopefully that will sort it and i don't need a new one.

Why is that, whats wrong with the stainless ones?

The stainless manifolds have a knack for cracking under heavy boost, you should be ok with a stainless down pipe though.

My original cast manifold is cracked and i got a spare one with the car and it is cracked as well which is the reason i ordered a stainless one as i thought it would flex a little rather than cracking but it sounds from what your saying i could be wrong.
My Evo is running 1.5psi of boost do you think this is too much and is what is cracking my manifolds, this is how it was set when i bought the car.

It will not be the 1.5 bar that is the problem. You need to replace the manifold with a stock item and change the down pipe with whatever upgrade you have in mind.

You would really be better off with a low mileage or new manifold, I suspect that the spare which came with the car might have been rotten, there may also be an underlying issue that has not been addressed.

Check to see that all your mountings are ok.

My car is fitted with a full stainless exhaust including down pipe (i think it's 3 1/2"),but the lad i bought the car off was a bit of an amateur mechanic so he may have been the cause of one of the cracked manifolds. I'll give the car a good check over when i fit the new manifold, i might as well fit it now as it's already paid for and in the post.

Please don't say that it was purchased from an ebayer!!!

If so then I would not fit it at all. If it was from a performance centre then go for it, you will have a chance of getting your money back if it cracks.

If does not crack then I would like to hear about it buddy.

I've bought it from kinugawa turbo, a Japanese tuning company that do sell on e-bay but i did a bit of reasearch first on the net and their stuff is very well spoken of and is Japanese made not the Chinese rubbish that is on sale by some e-bayers. They do a lot of turbos that are the American tuning boys seem to love.

From what I remember they are a Trust authorised retailer so they are reputable.

Most of their stuff comes with a years warranty so you should be ok.
