Hello everyone! Figured i would say hi before i keep reviving dead for sale posts more haha. A little back ground about me. I first fell in love with the evo 5 while playing gran turismo 2 back in 1999 i believe and have been building mirage conversions since. As im sure you know we got ripped off on the evolution series in the usa. I have done 2x evo 5s, 1 evo 4, 1 evo 3, 1 evo 4.5 and now i currently own a evo 9 which will be sold in two days. Then i am traveling to california to pick up a evo 5 conversion (from a mirage) but is mixed and matched with evo 4-5 bits. Evo 5 body with evo 4 motor/drivetrain i believe. I know most of the basics as far as ayc tends to go out and the evo 4 motor is prone to crankwalk. On my past conversions i have mainly done exterior and interior. Never really worked on the drivetrain or motor. I have been researching for the past couple hours to tell the difference between evo 4/5 motor and drivetrain parts but have only found a thin motor code reference. As being in the usa there isnt a lot of knowledge on the older evolution series. Any help or things to look for while checking the car out would be amazing! I am so excited to be here and i cant wait to lurk these forums even further
take care everyone hope to chat and pick your brains soon!
Oh i also forgot to add the evo 5 im going to look at has the ayc, abs and srs light on. The current owner says the ayc and abs lights came on at the same time and assumes that it is the wheel speed sensor. Any knowledge on this would definitely put my heart at ease. Also he said the srs light is on because he pulled most of the front of the car off to paint it and probably forgot to plug something back in. Here in the states i only know of a hand full of older evos and even less conversions done this well. I would really like to pick this car up even if it has its issues because it would save me a lot of time and money instead of building another one myself. If its a simple fix thats great if it could be spending let me know so i can factor that into the pricing. Which he is asking $14,000 usd.
Most parts i will be looking for will be drivetrain and suspension most likely. Oh i would also like to pick up a set of scotia white fog light covers. I am pretty lucky in my area we have ETS (extreme turbo systems) and English Racing. Not sure if any of you have heard of them but they do great work and know evos inside and out.
