Hi all,

Hoping this will be an easy answer for some of the techies because its confusing the hell out of me.

I bought he car at the start of June and all was well, then I left work one afternoon and the car started fine, drove 18 miles at approx 80mph and stopped at the shop on the way home, went in and out of the shop inside 5 minutes, went out to the car and it wouldn't start, it was firing but as soon as I let go of the key it wouldn't start.

I called the RAC who came out and ran a diagnostic test on the car, it came up with a fuel trim error and an O2 sensor problem, the faults were cleared and the car still wouldn't start, he then checked all manner of other things under the bonnet and no joy, fuel pumped was checked and that was only getting 5 volts.

In the end the fix was disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes and it started fine and ran perfectly up until yesterday, it had worked perfectly ok the night before and again I disconnected the battery and it start again.

Car has been to a garage who could find nothing wrong with it.

Is this likely to be an immobiliser fault, fuel pump, a relay or something else?

I would add I'm new to all this so any answers that you may have can I have in the idiots guide format please.:D

Thanks in advance
Richard

Their are two fuel pump relays which are garbage, but remove the passenger kick panel and check the connector blocks for corrosion, big fat white wire is the usual one to corrode out hence 5V only

Evo 7 Starting problems

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply. As I said I am a very new to cars like this. I understand the fuel pump not getting enough power but why would it work one minute and not the next?

Surely if its corroded it just wouldn't work, or am I making things too simple?

Please don't think I'm questioning what your telling me, I'm not, I just want to understand why and how this fault affects the car.

And if this wire is corroded what do I do to resolve it, also do I need to change the relays that you mention and if I do where are they?

Thanks again
Richard
