Serious Knocking

Started the e4 up last night and let it tick over for a while before running. While waiting a serious knocking came from what seems like the cam cover, it then disappeared so I thought it must have just been the cold. Only to discover it kept coming back when out driving. It seems to be only at low revs, any ideas?

No mate, it sounded like there was a cat under the bonnet, like metal hitting plastic, could it be a bolt has come loose and is getting knocked about inside?

What's your oil level like? When was it last changed?

mine had knocking when cold and low rev. Turned out loose spark plug

mine has a lazy tappet wich makes a loud tick on and of nothing perhaps an engine flus will sort out tho.
if your thinking it could be a bolt come loose dont drive it if you wish to keep ya engine lol wip the rocker cover of and have a look be best idea

Get oil pressure checked from cold up to running temp and do an oil change to inspect the old oil, if the heavy knock is re occurring it could be a big end bearing

Just been out and had a serious look at this problem, have found that the belt is jumping sideways on the alternator pulley which is making the noise! Any ideas as to why this is would be helpful. Cheers

Update, put some talc on belt and it seems to have stopped the knocking, now when I put the heater on the belt is slipping like a good un. So the outcome is to just replace the belt

Don't know if this may be too late and you've sorted it but I would have a look at the rubber buffer ring on the bottom pulley mate sometimes they perish and slip, I have had one before where it shot off out from under the car.
