Running 10mm Wheel Spacers - Do i Need Extended Studs??

As title states really, iv fitted new wheels on my 8 and have had to fit 10mm spacers up front so the spokes clear the caliper, now the wheels are on BUT im a bit like on if its ok to leave them as it is or should fit longer 10mm studs? or 10mm hub-centric spacers if they make them in 10mm???

What do you think?

Anyone had a similar problem as id like to keep myself sane as id hate for the threads to strip and the wheel come off :shock:

Any help would be good, or any links to things people recommend would also be great.

Done on my car before and they will fit on the standard wheel nuts.. Fine for road but a lack of thread of track, as said by Rob@indigo.

They do 10mm hub centric spacers but most are longer studs and slip on spacers. There and bolt on's out there but forget it with rota's. They won't fit on the stock studs with 15mm bolt on spacers going on my girl friends car.. They don't have the clearance on the back of the wheel and the stock studs hit, unlike the speedlines

Did you have any problems?, when you say hub-centric you mean like this in the top picture? or just replace the standard studs with longer ones and use a 10mm spacer with a built on lip that the wheel sits on like the second pic?

When you put the nuts on count the rotations till they go tight. Minimum of 7 I think is required

I didn't have any issues with the slip on 10mm

Both of them are hub centric as they have the hub "lip" but the first option is the raise I just don't think they will fit with your wheels, you will need to see if there is much of a recess on the back of the wheel? Longer studs maybe the way to go.

These are 15mm spacers and the rota drifts won't clear the stock studs. They are fine with 20mm

Right great stuff, ill get longer studs then and just use a slip on 10mm spacer, job done, But then i have to mess around taking disc off to get the studs out?

Yes bud, discs off and you maybe able to knock them past the hub, they may pass the front of the hub.. Otherwise have to pull the wheel bearing off which is easy enough.

Yeah i think ill go for the bolt on hubcentric spacers like you have, as if i ever get different wheels i can just take them off instead of having to change the studs again lol how much did yours cost Matt.

They are easier, 10mm will be harder to get hold of. All I would say is check the clearance, you may need to "trim" the oem studs to fit running 10mm bolt on spacers. All depends on your luck, I have a set of h&r's 15mm brought brand new for about £90 one pair. Compared to the eiback 20mm I found on eBay and got for £30 not sure I could get away with 20mm without rolling the arches so maybe on the hunt for another set of 15mm...

Longer studs and slip on spacers could be the only option. What I don't get is how if you buy an eiback kit its close to £100 but you can pick up longer rally spec studs for about £1.50 a stud @ 13mm longer.

Yeah exactly what i was thinking.... sod it ill buy longer 13mm studs :whistling: then ill have to stick with the Rota's , ill keep the OEM studs aswel just in case now its a matter if i can find the studs with the same thread pattern as OEM studs

Right i live 25mins away from these too, :whistling: thanks i forgot about them, and for a stud @ £1.10 im not complaining, im sure they will have what i need. ill give them a bell tomorrow and see.

No problem bud Haha can't fault that, on the door step. wouldn't even need to wait for delivery lol... That's ex vat mind laughing if they will fit ok. Sure they are the same studs I had for the front of my old gt4. Needed long studs to fit larger brakes.

What so you fitted the same studs on your GT4 as you have just linked me too?? yup on the door step, BUT im at work and not planning on going back home any time soon so i may have to ring, ask and order type of thing, but you have helped alot. keep it coming :whistling:

I'm sure they were the same studs as the ones I linked you too. That's fair enough. That does mean waiting which is never much fun. Has to be worth asking, sure they will fit. Not a problem, only as I considered doing the same thing so did have a look around


Forgot to say they do fit the arches nicely White was a good choice.
