Hey, I wonder if anyone can help, or give advice.

Couldn't find anything on here, so here goes, I recently read a type up on cleaning the lash adjusters and rockers as my Old Evo IV was getting tappy bless her, this was all going well until replacing the last 2 rockers and we knocked off the collets on one of the valve spring. I was doing this at my dads place in Spain, fuf, that was interesting in 40c heat in the sun :S

Has anyone replaced collets before? Any advice? I ran out of time but will attempt putting them on next wkend, but was wondering I might need to take of the cams or head?

Thanks so much look forward to hearing from you.

Have you found the collet?

You'll need to compress the spring with retainer to replace the collet. This is normally done with a valve spring compressor and I'd remove the head. At a minimum you'd need to remove the cams for access ....

Thanks for that, just as I thought, I found both parts to the collet at least.

do you think its worth compressing the spring using the cam shaft as leverage, hoping that the valve stem in the middle stays up? or do i need to remove the cam/head?

Just wondered if i remove the cam, is it very hard to remove? Thanks alot for your help.

you'll be able to sort it without removing the head, have a look on ebay for overhead spring compressor.

Last night me and a mate attempted it again, we got the piston to the top then got a strip of metal a few cms wide, bent it like a horse shoe and then angle grinded the end slightly thinner, then wedged it in between the cam and the spring top, then that alowed us to pop the collets in with a bit of grease on the end on a small screw driver... perfecto.. now after cleaning the rockers and lash adjusters she now puurrs with no tapping :) thanks fellas anyway, just thought i'd say :^^:
