removing the rocker cover

Ive got a custom painted rocker cover on the way and wondered is it a easy job to do yourself ?

Ive ordered the new gasket and rubber washers for the rocker cover bolts to come with the rocker cover..do i need sealant and do I need a torque wrench to get bolts done up to correct pressure .....I don't want to cock this up and I'm not too clever with a spanner

remove coils and leads 4x10mm

then remove rocker cover ..lots of bolts(cant remeber how many..10 maybe)
dobt forget to remove the bolts securing the timingbelt cover to the rocker cover!

do not loose any bolts

now, look at the new cover,fit the gasket and the 4 sparkplug hole gaskets , make sure the old gasket is completley been removed..use a small knife,,fingernails watever to remove any sealant ..esp around the edges of the cam caps where it meets the cover

you can apply a wee bit of sealant to the same places you removed em from

now then.. fit all the bolts and tigthen them finger tight..do not tighten a bolt all the way before the other are snug..you might crack the cover .

after that fasten the bolts starting fom one of the inner bolts,making concentric circles or diagonally..you just want to tighten them evenly.

if u have a small torque wrench..id say 15nm max..just snug really.

oh,swap over the breather hose and the PVC valve+grommet ..or get a new PVC valve

if you are scared/feel intimmedated,have someone do it/help you...and watch and learn so you can tackle futur jobs on yur own.

you dont need em,be carefull and all should be ok...they stick t the head sometimes,so make sure to pop em in the cover

you sound sensible,take your time and it should go smoothly









despite me explaining the exact same thing to a mate,he went and left the sparkplug gaskets on the head,boltet the coiver down on one side first,then wondered why the back woldnt go down leaving a gap and wondered how come ally can break...

New gasket not essential. My cover went on and off a few times before it started to look a bit haggard and decided it was time for a new one.
It's a rubber gasket which fits into a grove in the underside of the cover. Perfect fit everytime.

As said its just the round PVC grommet on the back of the cover where the breather goes in which is a bit of a bugger.
It's round and the part inside the cover is bigger than the hole it has to come out off. Pretty much need to push a screwdriver between the grommet and the cover to get it out and fold it in half to get it back in.

My rocker came off no proba and went back on when I done the lash adjusters. Gasket was all jiggy to use again, won't take long to do it I'll come and supervise Steve pulling your car apart I wouldn't wanna get my hands dirty ur engine bay is awful lol

just make sure you can get the grommet out as I haven't got another one I may leave the other job we were chatting about till then aswel mate as I don't want to risk the wood hole saw LMAO
