Reducing Decibels

Just acquired a de-cat exhaust (down-pipe to tail).

Car is going to be raced and there is a decibel limit of 105 Dbs at the circuit in question.

I understand that there is an exhaust "tip" that you can fit that creates some swirl and reduces the noise for measuring scrutiny.

Any suggestions please where I might buy one?

What exhaust is it and do you have a 3" elbow fitted or no cos there are alot of exhausts and setups that arnt as loud as that.

Nur spec for example a very loud system my mate had on his IX with 3" downpipe was 101db

My magnex which was 3" with downpipe and de cat was even louder after I fitted a 3" elbow and it was 97db

Have you measured the noise now?
105db is very loud so you might be ok anyway.

If you're measuring yourself...
The level should be measured, if the same as rallying, at 1 metre away, at 45 degrees, while the engine is at 4 and a half thousand RPM, I think this is stil correct.

It's a True 3" system with de-cat, but I'm not sure about the original elbow - I suspect it is as standard (2 1/2"?)

I haven't had it decibel measured yet, just worried that it might be too loud through my experience with a race-prepared Golf Mark II GTi which wasn't far off the limit, but sounds as though I might be okay.

I don't know of any of the 3" systems that are louder than a nur spec and as said that was sound tested and measured 101 with standard elbow and turbo so you'll be fine.

I have a 3" decat Mongoose system and that was measured at Cadwell and measured 94.4 if that helps

You should be OK but if you find that you have exceeded the limit then you can always go for a tip to reduce the outlet from 5" to around 4"-4.5" or so.

The link posted up by evoaps is a good one but the products are over the top and nowhere near what you will require buddy.

Let us know how you get on when the system arrives.

By the way, it is a True 3" system from the down pipe to the back box!

5" tail could be a milltec I had one of them and you could only just the makers name on the top of the tailpipe. Mine was 96db with a 3" elbow fitted too
