Get on eBay! Or a bike forum like southerndownhill, people selling bikes all the time.. Best of spending as little as possible. Get an old Raleigh lol.

It was at the time like having a family pet die, it was ruthless, and i searched high and low. but sacked it in the end.... obv:twisted:

Yeah one of my mates is into his DH big time and had a very bad collision with a pine tree ended up snapping his collarbone, breaking his nose and shattering his cheek............. the bike.... about a 10mm light scratch

If it's only getting used for commuting I'd say don't even think about spending a fortune.

You need something with a light frame, hard tailed and pretty stiff front suspension if it's mainly on the road. You'll save quite a bit by not having disk brakes etc as you don't need them. Try not to get anything with cable disk brakes either as they're crap imo.

I used to get mine from Pauls Cycles in Dereham when I was a boy. Used to cost my parents a fortune every couple of years but I used to go literally everywhere on my bike so they didn't mind the bill. The staff in there are generally very helpful and actually know what they're talking about etc and they've always got sales on.

I really want a bike for work but my mrs recons 30miles a day on busy roads is "too dangerous".

That's a big off.. Sounds much like what my mate did with nailing himself and the bike was fine. He shattered his ankle, broke his right femur! Lots of cuts... Bike came out few a few marks.
