Rear coilover decision - which to fix

Hi all

As the car is off the road I thought it would be a good idea to address the problems I have with the bc coilovers. Was going to look at the rears first as not only do they knock but I wasn't happy with the height they were set to.

Without naming names I got hold of a set of rear tein's off here, sold as seen and for the price they were worth it purely for having the car movable with the bc's off. Now the teins have the standard cracking top mount issue and well one is blown which I didn't expect. Top cover for the shock body has popped out...on the plus the locking rings move

Now this is the issue I was faced with having removed one bc shock, just to point. It the last 7 months these were covered in shock socks and when I put them on last September there was very little rust on them! :meh: cheap comes to mind. The locking rings are seized, springs are rusting well and the top mounts knock a treat.

Options..
Rebuild the bc's which will mean cutting the locking rings off and replacing all 6 or
Get the one tein rebuild and a set of top mounts.

Blown tein,

Working tein and osr bc.

Thoughts welcome on this, plenty of time to make a decision with the car off the road and with a shopping list of parts needed

Tein is the better quality product. But will cost a fortune to get re built.
Bc cheaper option for sure, lock rings will move as will the bottom bracket just needs some time spending on them just like I had to with mine

True they are a better shock, meant to be a good spec shock I think. Need to price up the cost of rebuild. Maybe just a case of some shock oil and re seating the top cap, shock is still pressurised, and adjustment seems to work so.

I will get the spring and top mount stripped off it and go from there.

They will need a top over haul as well, shocked at the rust on them to be fair. Few hours in some wd40 maybe. Just as long as I keep it away from the seals lol.

Well after cleaning and freeing up the lower locking rings on the rear bc's they are now gone to a better home and replaced with a set of proflex fast road coilovers. Will probably sell the teins in for some spares and repairs

Spoke to steve@preflex, going to send the fronts back to them for a strip down and rebuild, got one sat higher than the other by 10mm and they haven't serviced a set in years.
