sorry to start a new thread here but I need some advice asap.... It is linked to the below link but here it is in sort.......

I am really getting frustrated with the evo 4 and on the verge of selling it!!!

I found a fuse under the bonnet that was blown it is the 100 amp one in the bottom right of the fuse box number 15 I think, what does this do EXACTLY....

I have replaced the fuse but the car will not run when I do.... It will start but it runs only with my foot on accelerator and lumpy as hell miss-firing and spluttering (engine light on). Soon as I lift of the gas it cuts out instantly. There is a rapid clicking noise coming from the back of the dash central in position when I am forcing it to run..

When I take the fuse out i.e as if it was blown the car will start and idle ok, but as soon as you rev the car up it will try to cut out. (like there is a bad earth) when the fuse is out the clock and mileage wont display unless i rev it?

I have cleaned the main earth strap from the gear box to the battery, is there any more I should clean??? I just want to drive her

on this pic it shows number 15 as being connected to the battery, so must be a reason why it's blown, wiring issue? or alternator? i had the same issue with mine a while back, but mine was just the fuse :)

defo charging / starting issue, does it crank?

the car start and runs at idle if that fuse is out???? if that fuse is in the car will fire up then cut straight out, it runs for literally a second then cuts out...

The fuse seems to control thing like central locking, clock, mileage display etc. If you take it out none of these work but the car will run at idle if you rev it, it will cut out after it comes down to 1000rpm

I put the multi-meter on the big strap on the alternator and it was pumping out 15 volts..... I have cleaned all the earth straps up, but still no joy!!!

I could be wrong but I thought it should be charging at just over 14 volts, not 15, so could be over charging, that could be due to the regulator on the back of the alternator.

Have you checked to see if there's a break in the wires also ?

15 volts does seem high

Does it smell eggy?? Seems funny but if it is ovecharging then it will cook the battery and you get an egg smell

Also have you tried flashing the codes out on the dash to se what comes up???

just found the clifford alarm system under the seat.... all cut out!!!! with the turbo timer.... got the lower dash out and carpets back in the front and looking at all wiring there are wires cut and taped all over the place... is there any relays around the back of the dash that controls the running of the car as there is something clicking on and off very quickly

Is the turbo timer cut out too? Or just the alarm

With out pics it's hard to say what's going on cos Evo's tend to have loads of wires everywhere.

As for breaks in the wires, check for nips or cuts any where, or put a volt meter on them should be about 9 volts.

The regulator is on the back of the alternator it's a little black box just take it off make sure theres no breaks in it, shake it, if rattles then it's no good.

yes mate that is also not working but left in the mess of wires.....

I think what I am going to do is take all the clifford and turbo timer harness's out of the equation and wire the car back up as standard....

Do you think this is the way forward, then work from there... The car when started with the troublesome fuse in will not keep going unless I keep my food on the accelerator, but even then it is spluttering really bad... COULD THIS BE IMMOBILIZER, TURBO TIMER or something to that effect trying to cut the car back out....

Take the fuse out remember and the car will start and idle????

cheers so far again guys and GIRL of course ;)

I would say always start with how the car us supposed to br and you add bits until it don't work and that way you know your problem. Getting the car running is first thing. If the alarm has been cut out maybe this was faulty in first place when it comes to electrical I'm mythed
