Hi all!

My name is Pieter Bos and I'm from Holland. I'm 22 years of age and work at the royal Netherlands Air Force.
I own a grey 1996 Evo IV with a mileage of 138k kilometers(85k-90k miles).
The car has a little bit damage on the left aft side, just above the bumper. I Bought it with damage because it's cheaper for me. Thats because my dad owns a bodyshop and I can do it all by my self. :)

I joint your forum because evo's are rarely seen in Holland, especially the Evo IV that was never introduced in Holland and there for not made with the steering wheel on the leftside. I read some of the thread's here and I think I can learn a lot from you guys!

I also would like to apologize for my grammatical errors and mistakes! You see, I usualy only speak English..

Well thats it for now! Hope to have a good time here.

Greetings, Pieter

Pieter,

My Mileage was about 70k and yes it was due to crank walk - But it all depends on how well the car has been looked after before you and so on. Although my car had been fully serviced and the cam belt changed, I truly believe someone that someone who owned it before me fully abused the car and didn't look after the engine properly - But I would of never known - My old evo 4 was running at 365bhp and I never had a problem with that and the mileage was 55k when I bought it and I sold it at 65k and it was running fine then to - There is a thread on here called 'Crank Walk' and that is well worth reading. As long as you regularly service the car (oils, etc),let it warm up and down - You should be fine mate.

As El said, get some pic's up when you can.

I get my car back Thursday 26th and I can't wait.

Cheers

What symptoms did you see when you developed Crank Walk mate? My gearbox is a bit rough changing gear sometimes and there is a little tapping noise coming from the engine (i'm not sure if its just the normal running noise or not).

Hi again and how are you all?! :)

I just took some pictures and a video. With the video comes a question.
When I start the engine cold it makes a rattling noice, but when the engine is warm it doesn't!??
I suggest it comes from the startingmotor. Do you guys have any idea?!

Video of starting the engine:

Sounds like an Evo to me!

It is just a case of the oil having to rise and lubricate all the components. You may want to go for a better oil to be honest with you.

I would personally have a preliminary oil change using 10x40 and let the car run for half an hour and then change the oil whilst it is still hot to something like Millers 10w40 at the very least. You may want to use Millers CSF 10w60 as they say it has nano tech, which they claim will cling to components for far longer.

Let us know how you get on.

Allright, thanks.
I personly think the strartmotor wheel(i have a very hard time explaining this in English..),that propels the flywheel, and extends when you turn your key and retrieves when you turn the key back to batt. doesn's retrieve enought and there for is hitting the flywheel or something... Or it is just the startmotor itself, caused by slowing down...

weird anyway..

So is the noise coming from the gear box end or the lifters up top??

You will need to explain a little more buddy.
