Hey guys looking at this car -

Mitsubishi : Mitsubushi Evo 5 (330 BHP) 68k

Spoke to the chap who said that the AYC light is on but there are no problems with its function it just needs a new ABS sensor.

Is this possible? Is there a way I can check or anything to feel for if I test drive it? Thanks

I am no expert on the AYC and if it is just a sensor then shouldnt be too much to fix but if its the AYC itself it will be expensive.

Adverts can be misleading but that one does look like a nice example and if plenty of reciepts and services to back it up all the better.

The Active Yaw Control uses steering, throttle input sensors and g sensors to computer-hydraulically control torque split individually to the rear wheels.

So wouldn't the ABS sensor be something else or are they linked? Sorry that doesnt help you much!! I'll leave that for someone in the know to answer

Yep, you can read the fault codes by bridging pins 1 and 4 using a paper clip. Flash out the codes and we can tell you what they are. Yes it is possible it's an abs sensor. They can be a pain to replace and break pretty easily!

I really wouldn't know how to do the paper clip technique or get codes so I'm a bit stuffed there, he said that it only comes on when you drive over 15MPH and is about £250 for a refurb if it's the AYC pump.

Would you say that sounds accurate?

Between 250 + 400 to refurb ayc
It could be the pressure sensor in the pump is faulty or a complete overhaul.
At least he's been honest and told you. Most would just remove the bulb to hide the problem.

Looks a nice example, as stated already worse case scenario a refurb of the ayc will be needed. Normal road driving he wouldn't be able to tell really that the ayc is working fine, the lights on for a reason. There is a very good trouble shoot on here somewhere that I did ask to be made sticky but it wasn't and it explains what you can do to test the pump so you know where the fault lies

Really? Sneaky as F that is haha well say I go for it and it happens to be the pump (worst case) will driving the car be a problem, any damage caused driving it in that condition or anything I should consider?.. I'm not a guy that will be doing 80 round bends lol .... Unless I fix it....

To get the code you just bridge pin 1 and 5 on the obd connector. The connector is just above where your shins are when your driving. When you connect the pins the ayc light will flash, count the flashes to get the code. It really is very easy.
If thats the only thing your worried about though then as said its no major issue, when the light is on then the system turns off so will not cause any problems. Ive been driving my 4 around for over a year with the light on because previous owner removed the bulb. Only just getting round to fixing it now.

I would say make sure you get at least 400-500 off the price to cover the cost of an ayc pump take it straight to a garage and get it sorted straight away, that is what a guy on here done a few weeks ago with a 5 the guy was decent enough to say the price was 5500 if he wanted him to sort out the ayc or 5000 if he wanted the car as was and take care himself

Depending on age pumps can be £200-500
And it's a couple hours to change it and plus fluids so I'd wanna allow £500-800 depending on cost of pump.

He is coming down a Few hundred on price meaning I'll have to pay a bit my self but no where near the full cost of fixing it so Im pretty happy with that.

Glad to hear I can drive it around even of it is the worst case scenario, iv emailed a company called heathrow Japanese spares asking for a quote on a part refurbed, just out of curiosity because iv had stuff from them before and tey have been very good on price,

Ill have to have a look or an ask around for places in my area that can refurb the one that's on there otherwise.

I saw this advert when I was looking for a V

Looks nice, the only thing that bothers me is like has been said it s a £250-400 fix. Ok it could go up to anything as high as £800, but why not fix before you sell?

It's the excuse to that question that I'd be paying attention too. He probably has a good excuse, but I would be inclined to think that there will be other problems if the excuse is "money is tight" " I've lost interest" etc etc
