No they are not floating pullies.

Did you re set the tensioner in a vice and pin it ? Then release pin once belt tensioned ?

Yeah mate I did, pin came out with out any resistance, and I assume thats correct?

On the video, where he first turned the oil pump and it "settles in to place" is where my oil pump was sat when I took the belt off, I then turned the oil pump and put the belt on. It must be wrong.

i have literally just watch that, lol! I don't understand because the marks on the cam gears on his line up to eachother rather that to where the marks would be in the valve cover.

Yea ignore that. It's the yank 4g63 and if you notice from alot of the videos on here it's more like the Evo 1-3 engine. So just ignore that cos I'm sure it's just different pulleys. Dowel pins will still be at the top :)

If its trying to run on oil instead of petrol then possibly. As already shown you can see how it can be 180 degrees out so I'm thinking sort that issue then see what happens. Use the screwdriver method through bolt hole in front of the block to check its the right way up.

hi buddy

i have to say follow the advice the others have given you and retime the oil pump .

when i first got my evo 4 the last owner had done the cam belt the car was smooth on idle but once over 3000 rpm it would just feel wrong and would throw the dipstick out if driven hard .

this was down to the oil pump being out of time by 180 :O( vibrating the stick up the tube .

retiming the pump sorted the problem and made the car nicer to drive and rev better .

you have to remember the oil pump shaft is geared and turns at a different rate to the other pullies so can be out of time even if the marks line up :O)

give it a try :O)

.
