Oil change Evo 8 help????

I forgot to change the engine oil and now the car has done 7500 miles with the same oil bad mistake, now my tappets are making a slight clicking noise had no idea this would happen, I mean a normal car late oil change no problem. So I need to know if I change the engine oil which I am gonna do tomorrow will It cure the noise of the tappets??? Last thing when changing the engine oil do you have to drain the oil cooler if so then how??? I never understood the idea behind a 4500miles oil change but now I think cause youhave to use 5w to 45w it's a thin oil so it's gets worn down quick and then you'll hear the tappets that's why you got to change it so quick??? Some one please tell me where I will find info on this subject thanks

5w40 fully synth, not sure if it will clear them though, i usually take them out and clean them in diesel.
