North east newbie

Hi I'm dave from cramlington in the north east.

I'm currently looking for an evo 8,9 after a background of vxr's and an Impreza.

I race motocross so have bought a van but really miss having a nice car.

So here comes my first few questions...

Firstly the main differences between and 260 and the fq300? Performance and comfort etc and also insurance??

My girlfriend will also be driving the car quite often so would a 260 be better for her?

Looking forward to learning a load more about the cars and obviously getting my first evo

In answer to your question regarding fundamental differences...

The 260 and FQ300 badges are in relation to power output There were however a few cosmetic differences. The rear spolier being the notable one! I believe the wheels were different as well, but could be wrong on that front. The FQ300 came with the following over the 260:

HKS Downpipe
HKS Exhaust (superdragger)
HKS Hardpipes

In terms of insurance premium's, thats one for your insurance company, but i would personally reccomend Pace Ward. Very good company to deal with and are as passionate about there cars as we are so understand our requirements etc

Given a personal preference, i would go for the FQ300. Slightly better spec, more power and no different to live with day to day than the 260

The 300 does seem to be the better buy. They are both in the same insurance group aswell so I guess they would be roughly the same to insure.

Is the six speed box better also? Better on fuel for motorway miles etc. not that I am buying it expecting good economy of course!!

To be honest the 5 speed is a stronger box but I wouldn't worry about that unless upping the power

Go for the fq you will only end up modding it up to fq standard anyways. Insurance is pretty much the same too

Very true!! Might as well start off there. I will probably only do a few engine mods, don't think she will want it too loud!

Dave, do usual stage 1 mods on the FQ300 mate and you will be more than happy mate

Remap
3 Port Solenoid
Walbro Fuel Pump
Decat (optional)

That would see you nicely to 360-380 and the standard clutch etc will be fine If not decating it would set you back about £400 all in

Wow!! And I thought it was cheap squeezing more power from the vxr!!!

That's a lot more power for the money. Very very impressed.

What's the 3 port solenoid? Is that to control boost?
