no compresion and knocking from bottom of engine??

Hi I bought an evo 4 just over a month ago its got a full service history and 60 000 miles on the clocks. I whent to drive it 1 morning and it had a knocking on the bottom end of the engine and no compresion was wondering wat has happened to my car and how much to fix???? any help please!!!!

Ooo that sounds nasty.
Any signs before this happened? Did you just go to start it and when cranking this happened.
Id be tempted to whip the sump off and see whats what.

I drove it too and from work the day before it was absolutely fine in fact it felt quicker than when I first got it. Then next morning it started fine like always but knocking was their put it into gear and their was no compresion at all. Do u think you might know wat it could be? Thanks for the reply.

Oh so it does start. What symptoms do you mean by it has no compression?

what do you mean by "no compression" did you do a test to confirm this ? or is it that you have no power? if so, then it could be you have a cracked piston, but some sign of smoking should be there as well, if its just knocking but no smoke you could also have spun bearings,,,either way, get it checked..drop the sump and make an inspection, hope its not too bad

the piston rings have a habbit of cracking on the 4 engines, had the same thing when i had mine.. best fix is to put a later engine in if you can find and afford one

or ,,you could just buy some evo 8 pistons,and drop those in with new rings...you could also check or replace bearings at the same time

yes but all the pre 5 engines are known to be weaker (crankwalk etc),so if your getting your cash out your best off spending the cash on a later engine

ey up mate, by the time you have swapped everything, parts, labour you may aswell get a new engine, sounds like it needs reshelling, evo 6 lump, drop straight in, sorry to hear this mate
