Hi, I am a Newby, looking for help and advice.
I have my heart set on an FQ 360 evo X, and need some advice on what to look for, model to buy, even a good place to buy from. I need my day to day comforts, and as I have just given my daily drive to the Mrs. I am currently running my old P1 Scooby which is noisy with very harsh upgraded suspension. It is great fun for the occasional track day and weekend hard back road drives, but not for living with every day. I find the Evo X to be very comfortable in comparison, as the P1 is not suited to my long legs, like the Evo.
Are cheaper imports available, and what are the pros and cons. If I buy a standard car, are there any mods which are 'must haves', and what should I avoid whilst selecting my car. I would not have a problem......or should I ?...........in buying a cat c or cat d insurancerepaired car, so long as the work was done by a competent professional.
Thanking you in anticipation. Jonny

I will be at the Fastlane Car Show in Corbridge Northumberland tomorrow, if anyone wants to chat about things. I will be easy to find, as I was asked to rock up in my old light blue Maserati Spyder, reg S11CCP.

I bought mine off a member off here / MLR - best decision IMO - mark (2star) had looked after it well with all receipts and work done at reputable company (CPP). Being biased here but the IX FQ360 is a lovely drive too, certainly an improvement on the VII. As for mods... well that depends on budget and willingness to have the car off road being upgraded and/or fixed a lot when stuff breaks :D. A simple remap, 3 port etc should see 400 out of the 360. Also consider driveability - if you are going to add power, make sure the rest of the car is up to it - brakes, suspension etc.. :)

Thgaks Evokaralis,
I had heard that the IX was a better car, from a drivers point of view, but think that I must be getting old because for the first time in my life I am ready to sacrifice a little handling for creature comforts and asthetics.

The X is the more refined of all the evos so your decision to go for the x is probably justified, and it will kick you up the arse when you want it to.

As for things to look out for....... Same old same really, only difference would be the ayc, make sure you can shuffle through the different modes. You want to look for signs that its been looked after and any work carried out should be done properly, if there is any tuning work done receipts would be preferred from a well known trader especially if there has been any map work done.

Apart from that feel free to post up links to any cars on here and we can have a peek, I don't know of any traders not to use but I'm aware there are a couple out there.

As for cat c or d, as long as the work is completed to a decent standard yes go for it, I'm not one for resale value anyways, so if you can save some dosh, why not but I would ask a pro along unless your that way inclined and know what to look for

Also, be wary of any used car dealers selling the X that seem good value though
most of the 'usual suspects' aren't flogging top end Xs *yet*
As said put up a link to any that you're looking at and we'll quickly tell you yay or nay :)

X FQ360 is a good base car as it also comes with the manual 5-speed gearbox - the SST in the lower powered FQs is prone to overheating/clutch slipping at even moderate power levels and will require these to be upgraded too

Welcome.

I would also look for a manual over SSt if you can. Not saying the autobox is bad but the odd story suggests they could be better and an upgrade is preferred particularly if you going to map it. Gearbox upgrade is not cheap.

If you find one with a good history and well looked after should be fine.

I like the creature comforts on the X too so worth making the change for this reason.

Prices do vary though and not always a reflection of quality.

As X's still new I would favour buying from a Mitsi garage or a specialist or an owner from one of the main forums just to make sure. Any warrnaty they throw in is a bonus.
