newbies evo 8

hi folks me and my partner have a evo 8 well she had it before we met so as a mechanic its become my job to look after it....... i love jap cars anyway so no probs so i thought i found the car not seen new oil 40k plus !!!!! What i can see the last owner spent money on race clutch and remap and nothing on servicing including cam belt so me being nosy took the top cover off well i never seen a belt stretched like that and i later found the tensioner knackered to..... this is at 90k never been changed well i don't think so, wow so lucky!! Doing the belt finished off the rusty sump........ Gearbox oil and diff oil to do next i think, bet that has never been done but part from that good car.... We come to the point now where we can't keep two cars so the evo stays and mine is for sale so i am now a evo man....... time to play lol

Did you find the cambelt to be slack at the top between the 2 cams ?

Oh and at 90k it's due it's second belt, 45k is belts change and don't miss out the balance belt !

Sounds like you came along just in time to help the lady out eh

yes it was very slack and yes it sould have been the second cam belt and the balence belt is done too

I've seen them go slack a few times now in between the cams. Not unusual I think
