Hi Guys Im Steve, I currently own an 03 Civic type 'R' and Im looking to sell it and Buy an Evo...Either 5 or 6 (Preferabley a 6)

I was wondering what they are like day to day and also what are they like to run eg cost...Servicing etc and parts prices etc !

I only aske this because Ive been told to stay awy from them as they cost a fortune to run.

All your comments and advice are welcome and thanks in advance :D

Hello there and WELCOME, im pretty new to this forum and evos in general, well if ya not looking to get to many mpg (miles per gallon) then yeah buy an evo lol, if you are looking at buying any evo make sure you can get 1 with a good service history , then you will know its been serviced regular and has been looked after, also factor in insurance group 20 price of fuel as the fuel will be slighter higher as it will take superunleaded optimax vpower etc, then you will be needing regular service intervals depending how hard you want to drive or how anal you can be about getting your car looked at it can be every few thousand miles, all in all yeah an evo can be alot more xpensive to drive/run but HELL what a smile you will have on your face each and everytime you drive it, good luck with whatever you choose to do, hope i have tried to answer as best i could, but im sure you will get more of a response from other members too

Cheers mate, tbh the Civic isnt great on fuel....well when its in VTEC anyway...which is most of the time lol, I had an E30 BMW 325i Sport before the Civic and that was terrible on fuel, Like 15 mpg lol, So I used to poor fuel economy. Its the servicing that worries me and lik you say every couple of thousand miles...Im just wondering would I be able to afford it !?!? Like you have said though, the grin factor would be enough to keep you happy. Ive seen a few Evo 6's around the 6.5k - 7k price lately when normally I see Evo 6's at around 8,9 and even 10 and 11k most of the time.
Anyway mate cheers for the responce.

EVO YES OR NO lol

Well i guess its a buyers market at the moment, people selling some good examples at the moment for less money than they would have got a while ago, the joys of the credit crunch ha, have you been on any other forums for advice and to see if any people are selling a good V or VI,, :)

I run a CTR on the road myself at the moment. Great fun cars but an evo is twice as good!
If you are servicing the CTR as much as you should (6k oil and 12.5k service) it wont be that much more. I roughly calculated it as 30% extra on servicing.
Consumables are more expensive too (pads and disks and clutch) but you shouldnt need to do them that often.
Insurance isnt that much different either suprisingly (and Im 23).
Petrol again I use super and get about 25 out of the CTR so not a huge step, big enough but worth it.
As it has been said it is a buyers market. Go find a nice 6 and haggle!
