Hello everyone.

Ive not yet bought an evo but I am hoping to in the near future.

I'm after an 8 or a 9 but im a complete novice when it comes to evos.

Currently driving a astra VXR modded sensibly ( Handling over power ) but i have fallen out of love with it dramatically and I've always wanted an evo.

What are the things i should be looking out for when viewing/buying one? Any horror stories? gear boxes, diffs, turbos and manifolds all strong?
I understand the running cost etc will be higher than the vxr but by how much?

Also what are the main differences between the 8 and 9? Im going for big power with the evo as ive seen alot running close to 600bhp but how much £££ are we talking about getting it to that point ( under 10k ? )

One last thing, from an owners point of view do they really meet the 'hype' that they create amongst other car owners? i.e are they really that good?

All help will be appreciated.

Thanks, hopefully soon to be evo owner Paul.

They're solid cars, just the usual things you'd look out for

Service history, condition etc look out for rust underneath maybe on the 8's.

A lot depends on whether up your going to tune lots of power out of them but they are all good for 400/400 and is quite easily achieved.

The six speed is a little bit weaker but I think that's if your pushing lots of power.

I'd get a 9 over an 8 based on aesthetics :D

Hi paul. Welcome to the madness of evo ownership. You will find it better to buy one thats already been modded to that kind of power as itl be a hell of a lot cheaper but id add another 5k at least for a 500bhp model. Between 15 and 20k will get you towards the 6/700bhp. If you did the mods yourself you will be looking at 8 to 10k for decent car then maybe spending upwards of 20k modding it to the spec you want. Then theres the running costs of a car with that high power. Tbh you wouldnt need that power as 500bhp is more than enough. Where are you based?

edit: yes they are that good :D
