Hi all,

Google searched Evo forums and this place popped up.

Seriously considering an Evo as next car and wanted to look into what others have done to theirs and what problems I should be looking for with buying second hand :)

I'm completely torn at present between Evo 8,9 or 10 so anyone who could give me any pro's and con's that may help :) Have seen some stunning examples on here already which is now swaying me towards an 8 or 9!! My problem is I like to run before I walk and get all too hyped about modding haha

Have owned many previous modified cars but never an Evo so could definitely do with as many pointers as poss :)

Looking forward to getting to know a few new people...

Cheers,

Lou

When I look at those three cars the 9 draws me in the most

Just the usual service history checks, smoke etc.

Hopefully some of the later evo owners will pop in with some good tips.

I always try to buy on condition of the car first then look at other parts.

Cheers Guys :)

Yeah I won't be looking at anything without spot on history and servicing done at reputable places :) None of my previous cars have been less than perfect as i'm seriously picky :)

I'm just so torn on which model!! Stupidly looked at a few threads and fell completely in love with Johnno's (i think his name was) THAT is one stunning car!! But then I have a real soft spot for the 10's and i'd love one in white :)

I was told the 10 is much less raw? if anyone has owned both?

Welcome Lou

I might know someone possibly selling a Manual Blue X. They are fantastic cars, will it be a daily driver or just a toy?

Servicing sounds a little better then!! :)

Will, thanks - i was actually starting to think the manuals were myths until i saw one on autotrader today!! stunning example and well modded too!!

I'm undecided whether weekend toy or daily at the mo, but I would suspect (knowing me) I won't ever want to get out of it and will end up taking it to work anyway lol :-s

The SST is meant to be a very good gearbox so you shouldnt discount it, I personally didnt want an auto. I use mine everyday and its fine, ok its not got Audi quality but that doesn't really matter to me. The MPG is manageable if you take it stead.

What's the best you've seen out of yours then?
The auto box isn't a huge issue, although I searched for a while for my old manual VXR8 as I really didn't want an auto. So if a manual came along i'd be a lot more swayed towards that :)

What's your budget? You could have mine :D

Depends how much I want a car as to budget LOL  What you got? lol

The most mpg i've ever got was 33, that was when I was nursing the car to the garage.... day to day it will average about 25mpg (thats about 3miles of town and 8miles dual carriage way)

Got any pictures of the VXR8?

Nice :) That Orient Red? Do you find you worry about parking it places?

Also what seems to be the best power figures people have got from the X's? If anyone has any idea?

Thanks :) what mods and roughly how much £££ to get to that stage? I like to weigh in everything i'm gonna spend out before hand lol - cos I know full well regardless what I get it won't go without being tinkered with.

First off the SST is not an auto. It's a proper gearbox with proper gears, it just has an automatic "option" where the car changes gear for you. It's a manual gearbox but without the turbo lag. Win-win :)

Secondly if you're looking at 400 plus you're better off with a manual as the SST will get a bit funny at those higher torque levels. People have got 500 BHP+ out of the engine though.

Cheers for clearing that up Aidy - not having even gotten a chance to test drive one yet (none around this area!!) i wouldn't have known that.

I don't think i'd be going to 500, but good to have the info before as i said i wouldn't mod a few of my previous cars and then went to town on them

Seeing as the manuals seem to be so rare and white ones just as rare i'll just be keeping an eye out for a well looked after one for reasonable price.

Have the 10's had any issues? recalls?

TBH I'm not sure white was even an option in the uk? There is an RS version which is the basis for rally conversion (so they're low spec) that always comes in white, but I don't know if you get a road-going version in white. No recalls as such but the manual Xs have an issue with the diff pins that can cause wear on the gearbox, but there are uprated pins available. No idea about the cost of the upgrade though, and the SST doesn't have the issue.
