Hey all, found this site and read a goodly bit so thought I'd introduce myself and ask a few basics .

29 with 7yr no claims (nearly 8!),no points, no accidents

Looking at an Evo IV ish to play with for a year or so. Found a couple about but all have been modded which my current insurance company don't seem to like much! Tbh I'd be more than happy with a standard one .

First off, imports are they all imported? Any way to tell other than phoning everyone up who sells them?
It is easy (or even worth it) to convert them to miles if they are still running on km?
Can you use standard 95 petrol, I've read of people playing about with various setups, but can I just go down the local (which does not have super!) to fill up.

Many of the IVs that I have seen have an VI engine installed, this blows out any insurance quotes online (or up high when phones). Any suggestions/advice on this, ie should I stick to a IV engine or just pay the price?


Is there anything I should be looking for in particular when buying? Any tell-tale signs of an over-thrashing (is that even possible in this car!) or maybe any dealers you would suggest?

i hav an iv and i run it on normal petrol i do notice the difference in petrol stations so i always use petrol from statoil im in ireland so im nt sure wats good over their.. if i was u id go for a iv wit a vi engine reason bein the crank wears alot in the 4 which can be costly it wore on mine and broke the crank sessor and made bits of a new excedy clutch i had the get the hole bottom end done.. check all the bushes antiroll bars stuff like tat they wear. other tan tat a good 1 is bullet proof
