new to the forum and looking for advice

hi i though i would introduce myself and seek out some advice from the forum.

ive just broken my last pride and joy which was a 500bhp rx7 seen below. i built her up from standard over 6 years to a car that really couldnt have anything else done and still be ok for the road aswell as track days. i got to the stage where i couldnt spare the time keeping her in perfect order and only managed 2 track days this year and one of those was japfest :shock:

well 95% of the car has gone and i was going to buy a cayman s or a scirocco r for around 25k but i have an opportunity to expand my business so am going to have to divert some money in that direction.


ive been looking at all sorts of cars that i would be happy spending 10k on and i keep coming back to an evo.... i think a lot of it stems back to years of traipsing through cold muddy rally stages following the wrc in the good old days of makinen,mcrae,sainz and gronholm

so this is the question that has been asked many many times before on here. which evo and which model would you recomend for 10k?? im not looking for a heavily modded car and quite like the idea of a fairly original car with maybe just some mild mods that address any known shortcomings or just improve the performance, braking etc to sensible levels.

what do you think?????

funny you have replied and said mr as thats just what im glancing through pistonheads at now

is there anything that i should look out for with regards to spec or power as there seems to be quite a few of them and with a great range of prices aswell. i suppose if i found the right one i could stretch to 13k or so but it would have to be something special for that

so what are the opinions on which model to get??

ive been looking at 8mr,s and 9,s but i keep getting drawn to the tommi 6,s

what are the advantages of either?? am i right in thinking later cars nicer interiors a little more reliable etc etc and the earlier tommi 6 may need a little more looking after??

If your spending the same budget on a tme as you would for a mr then it will have been looked after with low miles and sensible mods. The tme is more a collectors than the mr aswell. Can't beat a proper looking rally car from factory. The newer Evo's don't quite cut the look of a rally car
You could also be buying a tme with later engine in so no difference to the mr...

ive actually just found a blue tme car about half an hour from where i live. just spoken to the guy it was imported new the current owner is the 3rd owner and has had it for 5 years and has only done 4k miles in it. it is running 350bhp has never been tracked. the owner has a small garage so he services it religously. its a 2000 year and its only got 40k miles and he want 8500k for it. the car is not known on any forums as the owner doesnt really do the net stuff (his words not mine)

think i may need to go and take a look at it. is there anything in particular i should look for??

Make sure you view on cold engine. Make sure all the lights come on and go out (ayc, abs etc).

Just the usual, turbo smoke, noisy diff. dodgy gears, noisy lash adjusters, rust etc.
