New to site new to Evo's

Hi, i haven't been on the site long, i have just bought my first evo, an evo 7 to be exact. I haven't owned a car like this before so i could be asking a fair few questions!!

Right here goes, first of all i dont know much about cars, just learnign as i go along and the lad i bought it off is a kind of friend and knows even less. The cars a jap import and apparantly has had a lot of playing with both over there and a bit over here. I dont know whether the car has been wax oiled, is that something i should be worried about and does it need doing? Also a kwik fit mechanic used to work next door to my old job and he had a quick look over it and seems to think there is a crack in the manifold before a sensor as the engine managment light is on (i got told is was on because the ECU had been uprated and it was looking for something that the car didnt have and that it was nothing) Am i looking dear job if it is cracked?

If its cracked its not the end of the world, 100 quid should see you a SS manifold, if you have a few tools and not scared of having a go you could do it yourself no bother

You will be better off getting a used stock manifold as the ss ones that you see on ebay are cheapy ones that are not up to the job. They might look flash and seem to be wanting to go easy on your wallet but they are known to have let people down by cracking whilst under heavy boost. Not the best track record at all.

I think the guy who sold you the VII was related to Arthur Daley no doubt

If the car has never been wax oiled then it is not the end of the world. When you do get a manifold, the car will need to go on a ramp. Buy a couple of cans and tell the technician to do it for you.

welcome to the forum mate,def go for a stock manifold like el said,and dont listen to everything a kwik fit mechanic tells you,youd be better off finding a garage that deal with these sorts of cars regular(like el).hope you get your probs sorted

i work at a motor factors and deal with garages who weld, they did it for me today and charged me a tenner. I then took it to auto tech who are specialists and he said the kwik fit guy did well to spot it, and the welder did well to do it for me so we ok with that. Until then got told i have a crack on the top mount of the front suspension (again i am no mechanic) so the guy at auto tech are trying to get some info for me. The guy i bought it off said its been knocking for ages and had no idea what it was. So thats where i am upto
