I've been a proud evo owner for 4 years now first one was an evo 4 lightly mod'd then the bug hit me and i jumped with both feet and got myself an evo 7 2.3 stroker owned it now for just over a year and just starting to get the best out of it! Nice, i get my Gearbox, transfer box and diff overhauled every 6 months but i do drive my evo's daily. Can never service the transmission enough just to be on the safe side. What cams did you put in? Stroker bottom ends are usually good and dont give many probs but the head does need a lot of work, porting etc to get more torque if going high BHP. 500/500 is a nice drive. I like to have the advantage and tend to go for a little more torque and some tweaking lol.

put in some kelford 272's was ment to have piper 272's in when i got it head gasket was on its way out so when changed it found that it didnt think they are MR cams, so jusat changed it and had the head polished up at the same time. reason i say gear box is next drop and changed all fluid on the weekend and was reay muckey in the box all the rest was still like new. changing as much as i can aswell m8 use it daily to.

never hurts to do frequent oil changes in the transmission and cheaper than replacing parts of the transmission. Some people neglect this and end up with diff failure and serious gearbox issues. Kelfords are a great cam and thats what i have in my evo's. Head polished is part of the head service but porting makes a great difference which you will have to of had done running 2.3 stroker lump. You can get serious BHP from these lumps with the right head work and turbo. Just keep ot between the hedges mate ;)
