what a load of crap cars prob run better modded

Currently we do not have a list of illegal engine tuning parts in this country but the EC is looking at restrictions across the board, particularly as OEM are pressing against tuning of their ECU software, maintaining that it is their property, regardless of the vehicles sale

Have you seen the new MOT certificate too.

I pissed myself when my Golf was MOT'd recently. It basically just a black and white print out that could be forged with a cheap printer/scanner. I laughed when I saw mine.

However, I guess they not wasting money on exensive certificates as its all computerised now so they would check instantly if it's a forgery.

Personally I think our MOT test is pretty good compared to other countries.

A bit bah humbug if they trying to stop ECUs being tampered with.

People would just then buy an aftermarket ECU :)

Im an MOT tester and been using these tickets since oct/nov now. Basically the ticket is just a receipt of proof of an mot on the vehicle. Some of the new rules are just basic stuff and some are not i.e an ecu which has been modified etc. How would us as mot tester's know this, we dont test drive the unless nessecary permanent 4wd etc. Even so trying to find an ecu on sum car is impossible, plus some cars with maps etc on even the dealers cannot detect them either.
Going to be strange and difficult for, but not really massively different from the current way.
One saw point is the case of air bags etc steering wheels, cars which have one from factory then a aftermarket wheel on at time of test will be a fail. Also when logging on a test we get stat sheet with vehicle weight, when abs light should go out etc, so alot more is going to be printed out of telling more details.
Its going to be swings and roundabouts.

Yep interesting how they said they are working with testers to keep price the same but how can they do that if it involves more checks and time on behalf of the tester?

The car weight is an interesting thing. So if its lighter than spec or varies by X% why should that matter?

I ask 'cause a GT being a 'lightweight' version and import will prob be compared to a normal 9 FQ.

for the new tests I now have to add handles/switches/solenoids to my rear doors as at the moment they only open from the inside, pain in the XXXX all because of some paper pusher

Its not so much stricter as bringing up to date. Engine ecu mods shouldn't make a difference unless it fails emmisions test. Its still basic minimum requirements. Batteries have to be secured, airbag lights as well i think are coming into the test as well, along with towbars!! ha ha. So if you got a towbar on your car that you dont ever use get the **** shot of it!!!!!

Defo looks pants but they can now put the advisories on the certificate where as b4 they were on a seperate sheet and most people just threw them away! So the next motor you buy you can see the advisories so you know whats coming next time!
