Hi all just registered here as im after some information.
Currently driving a ZR 160 and after something with quite abit more kick and definatly turbo'd.
For the past couple of weeks i've been looking at Evo 4's and I think within the next few days my ZR will be sold, giving me the rest of the cash I need to get one.
Just a few questions. Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for when viewing one? eg rovers a notorious for head gaskets, anything with these? Also do you think 4k sould see me get a decent one or do i need to up my budget? one last is im seeing most of them with 70k on the clock, what are these generally good for before they start to die as i'd be intending on keeping it for a while.

wish i could help, have no knowlege on 4s, personally i would sit on your 4k and safe up for an evo5, thought youd find one of them with decent milage for 5k

The problem is Evo 4's suffer from crank walk, this is an inherent design flaw in the block that was rectified on the Evo 5 block onwards. Not all 4's will suffer from it in their life, but a lot do, so bear that in mind. If you get a 4 try to find one with a newer engine in it (evo 4 engine code begins with TX, so avoid one that has that engine code).

For 4K you could prob get an Evo 4 without too much hassle, but as above, I would save up for an Evo 5 for added piece of mind. The only problem with the 4 over the 5 is it's engine, so if you get a 4 with a newer engine you have nothing to worry about.

As a result of the 4's weaker engine tuners don't tend to push them as hard, for instance on stock internals, boosting no more than 1.3-1.4 bar on Evo 4 internals, but pushing to 1.6 bar on Evo 5 internals.

not sure exactley on group, got to be 20 +, sure my 8 is 20R, im 24, 5yr noclaims, i insure mine with NFU, costs £130 a month fully comp, witch i do for 6 months, then £2.99 a month just fire and theft when off road in garage, they will give u a years no claims as long as u insure for 6 mnts fully comp, cheepest way i can do it running three vechicals. take it off road for autumb, winter

I did have my heart set on an evo tbh but what's your suggestion?

i have an Accord type R in the garage, i Have had it for 5 years and havent been able to part with her, but in todays climate and owning a thirsty expensive evo ive been considering it. she is 2001, 52000 miles, full recaro interia(always has seat covers on so mint),had cambelt change, two sets of alloys( originals, and speeline course),ugraded front clipers(4 pot with 325mm disks) new rear disks pads, she done 500 miles a yr for last 3 years, think i would like about £4500, look on autotrader there asking 5k for a car with 130,000miles plus, are they mad. its a proper drivers car( limited slip front diff) look on topgear review, clarksen loved, handles better than an ST3 i had, my evo, or anyother car ive had for that matter.

just get an evo mate! Nothing wrong with the 4 mate just get one with a newer engine if your worryed. 4:/5 get the one you like the best! Look's etc!

ive got both, dont get me wrong you can trow the evo and and boost out of the corner,and its excelent, ive got tein sus with edef controller its great, but the accord standard set up is quite amazing on tight backroads, just does not move but drives completly differet to evo, engine pulls different

what your ncb like?? im only 22 with an evo 5 and my insurance was £1380 with 5 years. the renewal has just come through at £930 well chuffed. imo i would just keep looking, not just for a 5, but dont rush into it as there can be some right dogs out there!!! although alot are looked after properly.

Currently got 2 years ncb. I'm expecting for it too sting me and I've budgeted for it which is why I wasn't really looking to go more the 4k on the motor itself, although I may be persuaded by something nice

Get an evo for sure. Honda are great cars but evo's are in a different league. Rsvrob will be a good guru for 4 advice he is pre occupied with tents beer and fast cars this weekend though
