Hi guys, as the title suggests. i've just bought my first Evo IV GSR. Love it to bits, awsome bit of kit. I took it for its MOT today and it failed on a couple little bits, and i wondered if you guys could help in anyway. Firstly, the guy said it should have a rear fog light and switch which it doesnt have :p Secondly, it needs a new offside steering gaiter, any idea where i can get a new one, or a part no. for it?? Lastly, my front nearside Caliper has a split seal, can these be refurbed or do i need to buy a whole new Caliper. I'm hoping its the former. Thanks in advance :D Glad to be part of the club. :D

hi m8 and welcome to the forum
firstly yes it should have the foglight and switch cause the imports down't have them, they are easy enough to get hold of and fit u could also use the garnish lights on the boot lid if u now what to do.
second dow no about the gatter but u should have them at any motor spares place they only a few quid or get 1 from the main dealer.
as for the caliper u can get them refurb'd for about 40 quid each i think

hope that helps

Hi and welcome to the Forum!!

I hope the failure has not disheartened you too much. The Evo's are generally great cars so this will hopefully be all that you ever have to do to it.

Where are you based??? I think this will be a good place to start off with.

Mark, there is quite a bit of difference in the price of a refurbished calliper and a Brembo conversion.

Just a thought mate, what did you do with the standard callipers when you changed to the Brembo's????

Might be a little change in it for ya!!!

Where they belong....chucked them, straight in the local tip. I'd rather pay £££ and get the car looking as it should of done from factory.

Thanks for the speedy replies guys, and no, i'm not disheatened at all, its only little things so it doesnt bother me in the slightest. I live in a little village called Bradwell, its south of Norwich or next to Great Yarmouth if anyone knows where that is. There's no motor spares places near me that i know of, i'll have a look round tomorrow. I'll try find somewhere that can refurb my caliper at the same time, bloody thing keeps sticking so i'm leaving the car on the driveway until i can get it sorted.
Does anyone know the P/N for the gaiter incase i can't find anyone round here selling one, i can order it elsewhere then.

Assuming that it is a CV gaiter then you will be fine with a universal jobby. They may look small but the damn things stretch!!!!

As for the calliper, you might be better off getting a second hand one. I am sure that John will be able to sort you one out. The one you have might well be able to get refurbished but I am just thinking that you might not be able to find a place that can deal with it near you.

Is there a Euro Car Parts anywhere near you???

There's one in Norwich which is near mine, i just googled it :p should they stock them there? Its the "Offside Steering rack gaiter", thats all i know. I could maybe confirm with the MOT tester what type it is if needed.

Yes they should stock it, they stared stocking non european car parts a while back. You will need to ring and order it though to make sure it is in stock. They will also have reconditioned callipers too on an exchange system where you hand your old one in.

Again, you will need to call them first to make sure they get it in for you.

Their prices are quite reasonable too.

Cheers El, i just looked online for the gaiter, it didnt come up with anything but i'm going to give them a call tomorrow just incase. Can i get a universal one or does it have to be Evov IV specific? Good call on the Calipers too, i can whip mine off and pop it down there no probs.

Universal will do the job just as well.

They have a list of cars that they can go onto with no problems so when you give them the reg number of your car they will cross reference it against what they have on the system.

The job of the gaiter is to stop crap getting into the components as well as keeping the grease locked in.

You will be OK.

If they have the calliper or order it in for you, just make sure that it is the right one when you go to collect it by matching them up.

In small Villages mate, they have to be strict as there is no passing trade.

At the risk of sounding a little idiotic:

They are more likely to be related in Villages then anywhere else, so they have to be strict on the testing or they might just end up passing an uncles, son in laws car only to find out later on that he has run over his sisters mother in laws niece who just so happens to be the testers nephews daughter..............or something like that:D

Well that's what I think and I am usually right:D

Hi Guys, a little update. Euro car parts didn't have the gaiter but they pointed me in the direction of a compant called Panks, also in Norwich. Gave them a call and they said they could get the part in for me by 3 o clock so i'm picking it up then :) I was thinking today, how hard is it to overhawl a Caliper and replace the seal? Would it be worth my while trying to get a replacement seal and doing it myself, or just going straight for the trade it in for a refurb route. I've also decided, seeing as i've got to remove the caliper either way, i may as well remove all four, grit blast them at work then paint them as they look crap at the min. Is there anything i should look out for while grit blasting them ie anything i should mask off to avoid getting the grit migrating where i dont want it. I'm guessing just the hydraulic connections. Thanks for all your help, very much appreciated.
