New Evo 4 Owner

Hi bought my first evo yesterday, and the problems started today, hope someone can help.... was driving back fron pickering today when an orange engine light came on the car lost power it stuttered for a few miles then a red light came on as well... power came back an lights went off but did it all the way home...any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Hi no it didnt stall, but completely lost power wouldnt accelerate, the red light that came on looked like a rectangle with waves above it, the orange one looked like engine...we checked the coolant and it was fine....the temperature didnt go above half way.

i have a 4 myself, which has had to have a new engine as i didnt check it over well enough when i bought it. that really doesnt sound good mate, and id get it looked at straight away.

Yes been to car show.... dont know if it has a cat or not.... only bought it yesterday morning...drove well on the way home yesterday 80 miles and drove well to pickering.... it was onthe way back the probs started....

with mine, the only problems were that it didnt feel like a 300bhp car. it never pulled how i thought it should, but that was the only problem. if yours is having troubles it doesnt sound good fella. it may be something minor, but it may not and will def be worth getting it checked out earlier rather than later

Im thinking a cat issue if it still has one...

But id be getting an error code reading do hicky on it asap if it were me.

just run it round the block and the orange light flickers on and off power dipped a couple of times pushed the accelerator and nothing happened and dump valve sounds a lot louder!!!!

Pop out and have a look if youve got a cat. The red light is an overheating cat i think off the top of my head.

Is that on the second downpipe with a heat shield round it the first pipe has a flexible joint..because thats what i can see

it should be just past the engine bay (under the car obviously) and looks like a big exhaust backbox type thing (lol). i think the orange light is the engine management light, so you really need to get it checked out before it the problem gets worse

Where abouts are you from? ill see if i can find you a good cheap mitsi specialist near you.. or you can take it to your local rolling road to check the power levels and to get a full diagnosis check at the same time. my local road charges £75 for the full check, so you should be looking at between £50 and £100

not quite sure what im looking for but, in line with the drivers door there is something under a heat shield and there is no box before that...

We are in Darlington... but the car is not running well enough to go on a rolling road.... i appreciate your help though.

If its the cat which is blocked/semi blocked the lamda probe will be choking too (hence the engine management light)

Id get it somewhere where they can read the error code. That will point you in the right direction.

It doesnt have to run flat out on the road for a diagnosis test mate. as the light comes on randomly, it just needs to run at the kind of speed that your experiencing the problems. Because if you just try a diagnosis from tickover, the problem might not show up

Hi, ive recently changed the cat for a decat but unfortunately the problems still remain.
the car cars performance is strangled and wont really rev happily past around 2500 revs and orange engine sign is still lit up... any ideas welcome.....

Next step id say is get the error code read.

As soon as we unplugged the bottom hose off the dump valve performance was restored so iv blocked off the bottom pipe but left the standard dump valve on.. is it going to do any harm
