Bought a new evo 6 few months back, after regretting selling my last 6 that was epic 404bhp from coming from a ep3 type r was a shock to the system but after 12months of owning it my wife got her own way and I sold it and bought a Audi. I said 2myself I will buy another evo soon as I sorted some cash. That's when I got my hands on my current evo 6 1 owner from new and had only done 39k but after a couple days I started to notice that nothing had ever been replaced in 12 years apart from services and Cambelt at 38k, so now iv started to upgrade and I'm having boost problems I get a cut a 5000 rpm and can't seem find what's wrong as all iv done is put a full apexi exhaust with decat and hks air filter and hks dump valve, do u think it needs a remap or could it need a new turbo ???

It certainly needs a remap! :wtf:

The boost will be all over the place now, I would have dared drive it, if I did I would have driven off boost until it was mapped to run those mods, they are quite "big" mods to do on a turbo car.

Fuel cut due to hitting boost limit is common when you start replacing parts without remap. It'll all end in tears if you're not careful and as it's load not boost/rpm so dont just think running below X RPM will save you.

I'd re-plumb the wastgate to take the control solonoid out of the equation then you'll be pulling about 0.8 bar max until you can get it booked in. It'll drive like a 1.0L Metro but at least you wont end up with a bag of bits.

Any major mods to fueling or air intake will require a remap

The short answer is "yes" but you have to weigh up what plans you have and when you will be getting round to doing them.

I had a 7 FQ300 and took the decision on what I wanted to acheive, got all the parts together, fitted them all in one weekend and mapped on the Sunday. I was lucky to know the mapper ;-)

You dont need to be silly and get a remap every 5 mins but if there is going to be a gap between fitting an upgrade to fuel/air and mapping, make sure you take it easy. If it's running lean at the top end (and I bet it will after these mods) your pistons wont last long.

Dont forget fuel pump too. No good getting all that air in and out if there's no fuel to go with it. If you're still running factory it'll be a bit tired by now.

I've had the above mods done to my tme for ages and only just remapped it (very safely as I'm learning to geekmap myself) but I never got any kind if fuel cut other than when I didn't do a boost pipe up enough n it leaked.
