need some help

hello,need some help,went out last night for a drive,at one spirited take off from some traffic lights,the old downpipe which i knew was fcuked decided to go,sounds like a V8 now,and i noticed the temp gauge had dropped completely,took it easy all the way home and car drove fine,just very noisy,will get new dp fitted this week but why would the temp drop like that?any ideas anyone?

Yea that's strange. Maybe the wire broke off as they are starting to get brittle now.
It's just under the top radiator hose (engine side) in the same bit of housing the hose goes onto. Single wire
