Was looking at struts and came across a set but there for a Evo 9 will they fit an evo 5 the guy who is selling them saiys they bolt straight on to the 5 and said that he is a evo specialist but am sure a read before that they needed customised to fit

Change the top mounts.
That is the only difference, different configuration of bolts.

Not from what I've seen.

Potentially an upgrade, springs may be stiffer as the 789 are a bit heavier. But you could use 5 springs with them to correct that.

Depends if their nice and cheap I suppose

i think the problem is the fitting to the hub rather than just swapping the top mounts :O)

From what i have learnt i think you have to drill the hub out to except the larger size 14mm bolt on the 5/6 as the 7/8/9 use a thicker bolt size

holes need to be drilled bigger at the bottom of front struts as already said, not sure on topmounts though, as far as i'm aware they are the same

Lots of random answers here. I'm gonna throw in another

I believe where the shock bolts to the hub the hub is actually wider on a 7/8/9
So the bracket on bottom of shock is wider but can be made to fit a 4/5/6 by just inserting a washer to take up the slack for when you put the bolts through. Other than that straight forward fit.

The upgrade would be to fit the yellow bilstien ones from a Evo 8 MR / Evo 9
But use the MR springs cos the ordinary Fq/Gsr models run a higher hide height
