The baby 260

It needs a few bits but nothing too drastic. Just ordered a cam belt kit from Jamie which should arrive 1 day this week which will stop me worrying constantly. The wheels have been sprayed very badly so I am after another set currently. I did use a steam cleaner which removed most of the paint from one of the wheels but it's still not great and a quote for a decent refurb was around the £340 mark. I really want to remove the window tints too but they seem to have been done professionally and I fear removal of the windows would be required. Unsure if it's possible to remove the rear windscreen tint without damaging the demister either? :hm:

This is the current state of play

Those wheels REALLY let the car down

lol yeah :) I will certainly bring it back to it's former glory. The paintwork is nice, shame I didn't clean it before taking the pictures. Then again, it's so let down by those wheels at the minute, it seems almost pointless. I still don't understand how people can ruin a car like this though and it's not like they havent spent money maintaining it either, it's got a full service history and plenty of invoices. I couldn't resist buying it at the price I paid though!

Looks ok apart from someones poor attempt at painting the wheels but that's an easy fix, just buy some 18's for it :)

As for the brake calipers, they all suffer with paint fade. It comes with age but very easy to fix. Just buy a can of vht clear laquer and give them a very light sand just enough to key the surface then just spray with laquer and they will look good as new !!

Ah thanks for the link dessimpson, I did spot these and they are certainly an option although I am trying to hold out for a nice set of standard Enkei's. They seem to be very hard to get hold of and the ones I have found have sold or the seller doesn't respond.

The evo 8 enkei's?
Christ. I gave a set away when I sold my 8 :)

They come up for sale all the time and don't command a very high price. A bit of patience will get you a set for a bargain price :)

Try using Tcut before sanding mate, then laquer:)

The little motor is getting there slowly so thought I would update the progress on the car.

The cambelt, balancer and all bearings have been replaced, the kit was supplied by Jamie at Evotune to which the service was excellent. I was pleased to see a good quality Dayco kit too and got to work fitting it.

and what a swine that cambelt guide bearing is, hiding behind the PAS bracket

I then got myself a wall paper steamer and removed that tacky window tint and steam cleaned the rest of the wheels.

Still unsure if I should get these wheels reconditioned, hold out for some excellent condition replacements or go for Evo 9 wheels.

Whilst looking around the engine bay, I found an Apexi boost solenoid electrically connected with no pipes going to it. Instant alarm bells, that along with the fact the blitz boost controller was having no effect on lowering the pressure which was warning me of the boost pressure being out of the parameters.

So a few PM's to And at FCM Motorsport confirmed there was something up and I dropped the car off with the lads at FCM. There were flat spots in the current map, aswell as the management light being on so I had it remapped aswell. The tyres were also wearing on the inside edge so I asked them to check and adjust the camber and toeing angles. Nice little outfit around there and if your around the Bristol area and need some work I would suggest paying them a visit. Priced well, knowledgeable and very helpful too.

So hopefully, I can start to enjoy it :)

Hi there, Well done with the progress!

I'm a member of another evo forum and to be honest i'm getting a little fed up with them taking the 'michael' out of my 260! I LOVE my car, as you obviously do too! It's the best decision i ever made :)

Good luck with the wheels mate. x x

Hey fella. I live in Bath and work in Longwell Green. Seen quite a few Evo's floating about the Longwell Green area.

Had an issue with the car still running rough after the remap and after some hair being pulled out by the chaps at FCM, it turns out the EGR valve was faulty :disgusted: But I got her back yesterday and what a difference. It's so nice to drive, comes on boost nicely! I bought the Evo 9 wheels in the end and had some Eagle F1's fitted and swapped the wheels over. It looks like a gem now :D

It maybe a baby Evo, but I love it! :awesome:
