MOT Emissions failure

Right I have just had my emissions done on the MOT and its way too high. The HC is 1700 and should be down between 200-300. Im running a 5 ecu (no idea of mapping etc) a magnex down pipe, have re-fitted the Cat (its from a 5-6 and has no bung hole for the sensor, the sensor isfixed so it does not show on the dash board),blitz nur spec-r cat back,272 cams, standard fuel pump and running a maf.

Now my question is , will a remap on the ecu bring that figure down to the levels required or is there some thing else? Starting to lose faith in it. :smthumbdo

The lambda should be in the turbo elbow which is before the downpipe and not in the cat, if it's not working then you need to replace it cos that's what controls the fueling so if it's not working then yes your car will be running rich on idle and fast idle so no wonder your imissions are high

Thats what I thought to be honest, the mot tester said its in the cat which im sure its only the cat sensor on a 4, to tell me when the cats overheating or something.

So all I need is a lambda sensor?

Have a look just below the manifold. There you will find the lambda

If you have engine light on and high emissions then yea it could be a faulty lambda

well one thing ive noticed oil temp only 60 so i assume it was cat tested when cold, so id immagine those figures will drop, looks like theres a cat issue due to th high hc and co

a good thrash before hand might bring it down enough, or worst case need to try another cat on it.


the sensor in the cat is the cat on fire sensor and not a lambda.

Emmissions is down to lambda sensor & CAT, if either does not work, then it will fail. Get the lambda fitted into the turbo elbow as it should be and take it out for a blast to heat up the cat and help bring emmissions down.

You are right in that only the Evo 4 has a temperature sensor in the cat. Lambda sensor is always in the turbo elbow.

No worries thanks for the replies. There is also the engine light and the ayc light on the dash. Comes up as a TPS fault on both lights. Would this affect anything? What could this be down to? It was a cat I had bought but first time fitted in near a year.
