mod update e4 s90 throttle body

Lee, the 4/5/6 has a completely different ICV to the 7/8/9. FACT. Also the Throttle pot sensor is different.

E6 throttle body on the RIGHT, E7 on the left, see the differences.

not looking good for me, however i do have a 7/8/9 throttle body spare so mught be able to swap the icv from that. will have a look in the morning and see.

so steve, why does the one that OP has bought not have the area for the icv to go into ??

It does You need to remove the ENTIRE bottom half of the old throttlebody to fit it to the S90.

The wiring and plug for the 7/8/9 ICV is different too, Lee. Check out the online wiring diagrams to guide you

So I too can just swap over the bottom half of the throttle body yea.
Will get the car out and have a look in the morning.

No, the 4/5/6 S90 is the only one you need to replace the entire bottom half, yours aka the 7/8/9 you only transfer the ICV, in both cases they CANNOT interchange.

Well as it looks. Correct my icv is different to the later 7/8/9 one but I see 2 options, well ok 3 if I include selling it back on to someone else with a later car but the way I see it is that I've waited long enough for one of these to come along at the right price so I'm gonna make it work.

Option one

As the 4/5/6 S90 doesn't appear to come with the lower section that houses the icv and the S90 for a 7/8/9 also comes as 2 halves unlike the original Mitsi one which is one complete casing so I'm gonna see if the lower section of my 6 tb will fit the 7/8/9 S90 tb

Option two

Is because I have a spare 7/8/9 icv the best option I think would be to fit the tb as it is and use the icv from the 7/8/9 and acquire a few inches of loom and plug from a 7/8/9 to connect it up.
Tps won't be and issue

i was also thinking that the 2 tb might be the same with just the addition of the icv part on the later unit . and removing that part might turn it in to a early one ???

as for using the later hard ware if you can make it work then all is good :O)

Lee, the bottom part of the 7/8/9 throttle body is different to the 4/5/6 so it won't transfer. You'll need a throttle potentiometer from a 7/8/9 too as its different to the 4/5/6 too and won't mate up. I know this sounds very confusing, but believe me, i've been in the position you guys are in, but have had all 4 throttlebodies together and did a lot of research to go with it.

In what way is the lower section different Steve ? Looked at the S90 and a 6 tb and it looks as simple as swapping the lower sections buy undoing the 4 screws ??

Soon as ant can send me the loom plug I'll be wiring it up but will have a play with the tps over Xmas

drop evo breakers an email see if he'll do ou a bit of loom, or can you cut off the existing plug on the loom and use some normal crimp terminal ends

as i read that its worth doing to aid cooling ???

hi guys pulled my e4 manifold today :O) try and get some pics up later


from what i can see the standard port is around 60mm and the new tb 70mm just as b6lee said in his thread .

but i also noticed that the main body of the whole manifold outside diameter is only just 70mm so even once the end of the manifold welded to take the new throttle body it will then have to be tapered back down so it seams the more weld you add the better / longer the taper could be ,

but is this not just a comprimise as there are also 3 wall to pass 1 dividing each pair of runners which again create a 60mm bore ?? as if they had been line bored from one end


and i know once the air enters the manifold it should equlise but will this now not favour port number 1 unless you open up the wall that divide the other 3 ????

so are all evo inlet manifolds the same size out side diameter or is the e4 one smaller

than say a e5 to e8


and would it not be just better to go for a fleebay special high flow jobbie ????.
