what temperature differences were you getting with the previous intercooler?

hi was getting inlet temps of around 20c to 30c more than outside temps " not manifold temp " sensor befor the throttle body , on fast road driving at 1.3 bar now seeing 3 - 10 c at 1.6 bar .

was told that it went to 41c on the rolling road very quickly once the boost was turned up

and took it out for a 40mile run the other evening a and b roads
and the most i saw was 15c over , went up when i got in to some traffic but went straight back down once i got moving again .

glad i changed it for peace of mind really but it seams to work really well :O)

hope that helps

hi guys just a quick update

just had the chance to get my car back on the rolling road after fitting this cooler .

and there was good and bad results .

the cooler works perfect even after 15/20 mins warming up and 3 power runs the temp differance between the in temp and the out side temp was 1 deg c .

well impressed

the larger cooler also has had the effect of smoothing out the boost curv and making the car nicer to drive off boost in traffic and less feirce when it comes on boost and never seams to lose power due to heat soak .

but ...

the down side is the boost peeks almost 1000 rpm later and the power starts to drops off almost 1000rpms sooner ,not that you can feel it on the road but easy to see on a graph

also loosing around 10 /15 bhp at the top end .

the conclusion seams to be that its just a little to big for my turbo " tomie arms m7960turbo "to cope with " didnt think you could over intercool but seams you can . doh !

the car still makes 400 bhp with it fitted but i think the turbo must be working hard to fill the cooler at higher rev's . so would rather not blow it up ..

so will try a 3" cooler next and save this one for next year when i hope to build a new engine and find a bigger turbo..

if you dont try these things you will never find out if they work i gess ..

:O)

so to conclude the intercooler itself is a good buy?

is it worth buying a ebay cooler? recommend?

did you have your map checked after fitting? can you post up the graphs of the afr from the first runs and then from the last ones?

oh yes 400 in a 4 is a lot of fun as a daily driver :O)

it was 332.6 atw with the old cooler and now 314.3 atw with the new .

am new to using rolling roads so dont know to much about how it all work but it seams quite clear that there is a issue .

its not a air leak as i pressure tested the inlet system from the turbo on to 2 bar and all was good .

as a test i also bypassed the new cooler with some steel tube and the boost was savage with out it :O) .

so its no biggie to change the cooler for a smaller one for now there cheap and easy enough to fit on a 4 ,

cheers

The cheaper intercoolers can cause an issue as they're not flow friendly. But its still a good result! What turbo's on it?

dont know would like to get it back on the same rr but i dont know when i will get the time .

and as my car is out of action till my drive shafts come back from my mates i cant even road test it to feel the differance if any" only 2 days i hope " . being modded to fit later rear cv joints :O)

there is a rr near by but they all give different reading dont they ? but the graph should be simular .
