Mechanical vs digital gauges

Evening all I'm looking at getting some new gauges I have found some prosport ones which I like the look of they do an option of mechanical or electrical for the boost gauge and electrical only I think for the oil pressure and oil temperature.
Does anyone have any experience with electrical gauges.
I think I favour the mechanical for boost and probably electrical for the oil what do you guys think or reccomend???

i had the mechanical prosports in my skyline. they worked really well and looked the nuts!

Advantage with mechanical is you dont need to read them. Just glance, see the needles are in the right area and your set. Digital ones you have to read the numbers and mentally convert to that to an ok or oh cock

Nick I ment mechanical or electrical for the sender buddy. Whether it uses sensors or vacuum and oil

oil pressure is best elecy. otherwise you have a cooper pipe going to your dash, just think of what could happen if you nudge it while toying around or it gets knocked.

Turbo one would be better elecy too. that way you save wasting vaccuum going to gauge and back again, while elecy(ps im not to good at spelling the correct term)
uses a sensor at the 't-piece' which sends the signal to the gauge.

Am I gonna need the sandwich plate if I go electronic??
Does anyone know anywhere cheap to get the prosport gauges

yes a sandwich plate, between the oil filter(for example) with one or two outlets for gauges, dont forget extra outlets for the oil cooler etc.

you can use oil pressure and oil temp at the plate.

usually on turbo cars from what ive seen there is a sandwich plate between block and oil filter, my RS has this. 2 hoses are for the oil one in and one out. so thats 2 outlets on the sandwhich plate. however if you want gauges you need an extra outlet per gauge, so if you want 2 gauges you need 4 outlets.

I have also read about using the blanks in the oil filter housing.

If I go for the sandwich plate option does anyone know wHat adapter size I will need for an evo 6 running prosport gauges?

is an option, i dont know where the pressure switch is exactly, but it is a cheaper and better option, if its tight on space you can use a st/st braided line to the t piece and mount it on the bulkhead, also using t-pieces like you mentioned its wise to use PTF tape, i didn't once and oil came out everywhere.

Is this the same for electronic gauges. I'm assuming this is correct for mechanical ones but I'm not sure how the electronic ones work.

Electronic gauges will have a sensor/sender unit which scrws into whatever required.

EG you want a water temp gauge. you cut the top rad hose in half, fit a t piece block and a sender unit to the t piece. once youv'e refit everything you find the wiring from the back of the gauge, feed it though the bulkhead and to the sender unit. this is earthed by the way.

3 other wires are at the back of the gauge, + and - which will be wired to the headunit
and the last one is for the light bulb. you will need to find the wire on the stalk which turns the lights on, or just use a wire from sidelight through bulkhead and to bulb wiring.
that way bulb only turns on with the lights.

all this is the same for any gauge that you need to wire up. apart from vaccuum and some lesser used gauges.

its worth lookin at a few different ones before you decide,I've got the auto gauge ones and personaly I think they look the bollocks,thers a set of 3 on ebay for about 45quid new,your lookin at that for just one in the shops.the only bad experiance I've had with electronic gauges is the oil preasure,I think its the sensor as some times it reads the preasure and some times it doesn't,I think its just due to the position of the sensor though,it will get plastered in crap off the road.
