Hi all!

Last night I was on the phone to a friend in Japan. Over there they are passionate about all things Ebo or if not then all things Skyline. We got into a debate about which is the best overall and it soon became a conference call that spanned from the Far East, over to the middle East, the Netherlands, UK and South America which ended up including the Scooby too.........

As far as the Skyline is concerned it is the hands down winner on potential and still holds the 1/4 mile record over the Ebo and the STi, but the STi is a failure as far as my crew and I are concerned simply because there are too many design engineered flaws that end in engine detonation or seizure so the Scooby is ruled out.

We ultimately decided to end it by getting on our respected forums and seeing who rates their car and why, also, as it might prove biased, problems that have occurred must be taken into consideration as well as how long the car has been owned too.

Please take a moment of your time and tell us right here what Evo you have and what you think of it, please, please also list what problems you had and how much it cost to rectify or if it is still an issue.

*Evo owned

*Duration of ownership

*I rate my Evo because...........

*problems

*cost to cure

Your help to secure the first place in this little debate will be much appreciated.

Typical that!!!

17 views and not a single reply. Are all you Evo owners frightened at the prospect of going up against the Skyline?????

My mate in Japan tells me he already has over 40 replies!

Come on people, step up and represent!!!!!!!

only just got into this Jap scene end of last year.

Never been a huge fan of scoobies, altough the 3dr one isnt too bad at all, infact they are a nice car to look at, they dont apeal to me.

skylines are nice, but i only really like the 'older' ones think they are called R32-R33, with the small spoiler.

ive liked Evos for some time, while i prefer the Evo IV, V and VI more so as ive always thought of them to be more in your face, spoilers look better and front bumper too.

personally i'd say evo the best looking car depending on what model, but early skylines look better than newer Evos

*Evo owned: IV

*Duration of ownership: 6 months

*I rate my Evo because...........: something different than all my previous cars (fords etc) altough it'll never take my love of the RS range from ford.

*problems: Camshaft sensor and a leaking baileys dump valve

*cost to cure £65 (Sensor) £10 for Blitz dump valve from friend plus fitting

Hi all

Having owned 2 Skylines R33's and now just having taken delivery of my Evo IV, i feel that i can make a contribution to this thread.

The Skylines are lovely to drive, but always having the worry of the rear end stepping out and over-taking the front.

Depending on what has been done to the skyline, like any fast car you can end up spending thousands to gain more BHP.

Maintaince costs can be high, again depending on the quality of parts used.

The only Skyline that i would want to own now is a GTR 4WD.

The Mkiii and MKiv Supra's are also expensive to maintain/run.
as the Lexus Soarer 4ltr V8 Limited.

I have only driven my Evo for about 1/2 hour today and i am still smiling!!!!

i rate my evo because iv had loads of cars before tis iv always bein a big itr man ownin 3 of them but drivin the evo is such a dif drivin experience soon as u put the foot down the power is their and the handlin even wen sumting goes wrong its always about getin it back on the road theirs just sumin about them i tink..

now the proplems: it stoped 1 day wen the clutch went 19 pieces it fell out in wen i took the gearbox off was a exedy triple plated clutch only in the car 3 mths.. reason for all tis was the crank had walked their was serious play in the flywheel and the crank sensor was broke so in all a big proplem.. the back diff is now leakin oil can figure out wer its cumin from...

cost 2 cure: iv built it for drag racin and the odd track days so 2 date its seen the bones of 9000 euros and im still not finished

*Evo owned, FQ 330

*Duration of ownership 15 Months

*I rate my Evo because........... Its an EVO, is quick, looks good and purrs better than the cat and it will take on most other cars.

*problems, services twice a year and just hit 40 on the clock so I have had new brake discs, pads and a new clutch.

*cost to cure This year alone she has averaged £850.00 a month, but what can I expect she is an EVO and I don't care!

I would just like to add that a friend has just bought a skyline and had to have a new gear box within a week, ha ha ha.

hi fellas, i had a skyline R33 gtst before the evo 4, i did a straight swap for the evo.

my main reason for swapping was due to the rear end wanting to get anywhere before the rest of the car! it was running at 300bhp and would snake in a straight line, you also had to be pretty confident about powering in and out of corners. where as the evo was so much easier to drive although i do think the evo has too much turbo lag at low revs compaired to the skyline.

when you have a r33 gtst everyone says is it the gtr and then you have to explain that its not!

when i bought the skyine, they were as rare as rocking hourse muck in my area but a year in and they were everywhere.

i did look into a scooby but i see them as a bit of a chavs car and the insurance was stupid.

i didnt have much go wrong with the skyine apart from the heater matrix going twice on me and my mechanic said the head was on its way out

the evo on the other hand was very realible until i blew the engine up but i think that was partly down to the weak ass IV engine and partly my heavy foot all the time

the skyline would spend a week in the garage and then id have 5 mins of fun before i wanted/needed to do something else to it. you cnt just uprate one thing with out doing a whole host of other thing first with a skyline. the evo you dont!

overall i think a skyine has the raw power over the evo but the evo is easier to gain bhp and beter handling. my skyline would beat my evo in a straight line but lose it in the corners to the evo!

i think thats all i have to say bout that!!

*Evo owned evo IV

*Duration of ownership about 3 weeks

*I rate my Evo because........... i love it, always wanted 1, nicer looking than any scooby or skyline,

*problems, diff oil but thats normal

*cost to cure..... £47

personally my mate has a skyline, or should i say HAD..... he had problems every month without fail, finally resulting in splitting the bearing in the bottom end, went through 2 clutches etc aswell, he is now getting another skyline built but this time with a GTR engine with the dreaded gearbox prob but he says he is aware of thie lol, anyway in my opinion evo's win hands down on all accounts
