I'm after some advice please, i've recently bought an evo 4 and need to know the following:

the sas / egr pipe has been removed from my car, does this need to be capped off ?

The manifold has some hairline cracks in it, is this scrap or can it be welded up ?
If it is welded should I get some reinforcing webs put on it at the same time ?

I need to replace the manifold to turbo gasket where is been blowing, what type of gasket would you gents recommend for both the manifold / turbo and the manifold / head ?
The ones that came off the car were multilayer gaskets.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi mate, has the SAS valve had the vacuum line detached? If it has you shouldn't have a problem as it won't be operating, as for the manifold I would just get rid and put a standard back on much more reliable and get a gasket from dave at ears motorsport they do all the genuine mitsi stuff

Fit std manifold.
Std metal gaskets from many stockists of evo parts.
You can remove that complete SAS valve if you want. 2 bolts under it but leave the actual bracket. Any pipes should be blocked of...

+1 to the replys above.

I had exactly the same mani on mine when I got it, that had holes in it and was blowing through the gaskets. First thing I did was put the standard back on and have never looked back :D

Jesus that mani is shocking!

Those pics need to be used as a reason not to buy the cheapo eBay manifolds.

As said get a solid standard one on and you'll be fine :D

Removal of the SAS will mean no pops and bangs can be mapped onto your car.

That's not actually true. You map the pops/bangs on the ecu.
The SAS aids in the final process. But you can get pops/bangs without it fitted :p

Oooo that's good to know  is there any benefit in removing it?

They do a bit, but you get what you pay for and those japspeed ones are extramly cheap when compare to the others that are £500 upwards

The standard manifold is good for 400/400 so unless you pushing really big power the standard manifold is fine.

I have a non-SAS manifold lying around in the shed which I bought from JapDNA but didnt use in the end as I wanted the standard SAS version.

Although not 100% sure if it will fit a 4 as it was supposed to be for a 9 when I bought it?

Btw mine had a chocolate ebay cheap tubular mani on it too that had split in several places and replaced that with standard one, does the jon perfect
