Leaking koyo

This I posted up ages ago across the pond. Removed the koyo as was getting steam from the centre of the rad.

Had it pressure tested and was told it couldn't be fixed due to position. Its centre veins at the bottom where it meets the end tanks. Its now with one of my mates as a company next to where he works will have a look. Would have thought dropping a bit of solder in has to be worth a shot, other wise maybe re core?

Any thoughts?

Can't imagine a bit of solder holding at all. It would have to be placed from the inside to stand a chance IMO.

As for recore, I'd imagine its a one of those processes that involves a lot of work on a £250 part.

I have a koyo too and I think if mine split I'd just buy new instead of repairing it and having the worry again (I'm not saying £250 isn't a lot of money, just one of those unfortunate spends you have to do sometimes with these cars)

Its a done thing, dropping solder in to rads..

Where did you get a koyo new for £250?? You can add at least £100 more and more than that if its a 7-9 rad. So re core would be better replacing.

As said its not a cheap rad new, and its they were £250 new I would have gone and bought a new one £400 without any discount!

Noticed a few people with the same issue... Don't think I shall be investing in one... Don't mishmoto rads come with LIMITED lifetime warranty??.. I would cut your losses rather than paying out for a re-core

Can happen to any of them and koyo are better quality.. Wouldn't buy a mishimoto just from things I have heard.. Know it could be one offs but like you have read with koyo it puts you off. Would depend how much and who did the re core.

Waiting on a price for a race rad but thinking its going to be silly money

Lol sorry had a moment on eBay £250 but from America £350 is an over here price sorry.

Just had a quick look at the soldering idea, looks like that's your next step. Is it a specialist job though?

Sounds more like it lol..what's the postage on the ones from the states?

Well its at an engineers, good few places about that can solder rads, but it is a specialist job. It was at a aluminium specialists before but he was more keen on building me a one off rad

The postage is about enought to get one for the same price here lol.

Sounds interesting :twisted: get him to repair yours for a small fee and have him build one too. Pay for the bespoke one and sell the Koyo. Sorted!

It's annoying when they won't "touch" something, had it with a wheel once.

Race rads seem very expensive!

Koyo make the standard rads in a Evo for Mitsi anyway so quality must be good.
I've not heard of one with an issue before, this is the first.

As for mishimoto has anyone not seen the shapes they blow out into ?!!

Heard of a couple that have leaked, not a major leak but maybe a pin hole split somewhere near the bottom.

I wouldn't worry they are top rads..far more efficient than the stock core.

Turns out its leaking bottom of the core, not easy to solder so say and high chance it won't last. So leaves either re core or replace
