HDR (High Dynamic Range) is about taking 3 photos of the same subject, 1 under exposed, 1 normal and 1 over exposed.

You then merge them in special software and play about with the tone mapping.

Yeah there seems to be issues there at the moment, I can't comment as I don't know the full story only heard a few rumours. But isn't looking good at the moment what I've heard.
