Hi everybody,

I am new to this forum and look forward to speaking with a few of you over the coming months.
I have just bought a Evo 4 1996, lovely looking thing. Spec as follows:

17" oz wheels
huge brembo front brakes conversion
hks super drager exhaust
new downpipe
de cat pipe
hks dump valve
boost gauge
350 bhp
had a new clutch 1 month ago

Problems:
-will not go into reverse, gear stick is all floppy.
-mileage on clocks does no display, neither does clock in dash they light up blue but dont show any figures.
-top suspension mount is moving as one bolt is snapped?
-battery light is on and comes on even when new battery been fitted(assuming alternator)

all the above needs sorting, if anyone has any ideas or even parts for sale to cure I am open to suggestions

regards tom:)

all the above needs sorting

hello . and ooops :O)

have you checked the gear linkage on the box , rubber mounted/ can split and come away .

the clocks might just need some new bulbs . electric's are not really my thing :O(

change the mount :O)

and get a volt meter on the battery and see if its charging , you might just need some new brushes or a regulater fitting to the alternator . or just fit a good used alternator ,

, sure there will be other adding some better advise later :O)

good luck

.

Welcome to the madhouse :)

350bhp Unlikely on a 4 engine, sorry to tell you :(
Walbro fuel pump needed ...

Battery light could well be alternator
Clock and dash display not working will be blown fuse
Floopy gear stick/no reverse could be loose gear stick linkagem take the cover off and have a look
Std or coilover suspension?

This might help too :)

Welcome to te forums!

350 BHP with just an exhaust? No filter, fuel pump, boost controller or remap on a newer ECU (Evo 4 ECU is not mappable). Sorry, but there is no chance of 350 BHP without the above, running around 1.5 bar boost, which I personally wouldn't run on an Evo 4 engine anyway.

As per above for the rest of your questions really. Hope you get it all sorted.

welcome along pal. tech stuff is the two guys above, my input is new mount and bolts ;)

all will come along nicely just be patient when probs are sorted get tuning with stage one because as already said if the only mod you have is exhaust and your running the 4 ecu the others are spot on.

gear linkage is common so no real probs there.

welcome again mate

Gear linkages failing are not common. Please don't write if you're guessing, it gets up false hopes.

Where are you in the country? I'm sure there's a member on here or a evo specialist nearby that could help you look the car over. Did you buy the car with these problems? I hope you paid no more than £1500 for the car.

gear linkage is very common if you have a evo4. NOT on any of the others though as they are all solid from the five onwards.

I've been around the evo scene in depth for around 8 years now and I've never heard of the cables failing!

Cables??? I didn't say anything about cables. I'm on about the thing that when it goes the stick goes all floppy, I personally know of 2 8's and 1 6 in the last year. Not here for argument

I think it is the alternator causing all my problems with the electrics??? reason i think this is because when I charge the battery everything works as it should...
The clocks odometre, and radio all kick in on a full charge battery... but I leave the car running and by the time it has got up to temp, about 5-10mins the battery light comes on the car cuts out. Try to restart and the battery is totally dead.
When I start the car just as it fires up the is a high pitch squeak for a second if that litrally, real loud!!! am thinking it is the alternator squeaking on start up.

now today I have found a lot of gear box oil under the car on the floor in the workshop (I own a bodyshop) obviously this is not good any common seals that go on these I should know of?

regards tom and thanks for the advice already, real help and looks a good forum

p.s didnt think the car would be 350bhp, I have a scooby that is about that figure and I have lots of mods on that....
