just a quick ?

my mate just got an evo 7 and he gave me a spin in it and of course now i want one tbh there a car i had never though of owning but after experiencing it i have to have one but ,
and i want an evo 7 i just want to know what are the common problems with evo sevens, and what would be considered high millage for an evo,
also i asked a mechanic about them and he said there prone to engine failure , and warned me away from them but i just want a second opinion thx,

Tell your mechanic to stick to what he knows !

With a 7 you ideally want one that hasn't been in the country very long ie a couple years cos they do suffer with rust in the floor pan if not treated properly from first import and also for some reason they suffer with rust in the outside face of the rear arches.

Otherwise a standard car will last as long as you look after it. As with anything service history is critical. An quite often be done by a Evo specialist rather than dealer. Just make sure it's a recognised Evo specialist as apposed to someone that tinkers with say a golf gti

As lee says, it sounds like your mechanic guy is a bit of a vag head apposed to a jap lover lol, not heard of engine failure bein a prob

haaaa lol, engine failure on evo 7???? evo 7 well serviced the engine is like bullet prove mate, tell ur mecanic to keep is head on rovers and puntos lol

Didn't you say lee that you took apart a 7 engine with 80k on it when you were forging it and found everything to be as new condition?

Just make sure when you start the car the 3 ayc lights should flash up and only 1 stay on

Evo 7's have the weaker rods.

I'd also look on the rear wheel arches as they're prone to going rotten.

my 6 has 88k and when rich took my engine apart he could not belive how spanking new everthing was

is there definate evidence of this now, I remember people mentioning it years ago and how some had tommi rods or something but thought it was just forum rumours.

I've had quite a few evo 7s with low miles and a couple with highish miles. One had 72k and another had 85k and both were as good as the low milers

You can see the rod profiles on the technical manuals, they're not great.
