That is what I was just thinking but I am sure I have come across a 3rd Party extension where you just need the owners consent irregardless of the vehicle having cover or not.

Well worth checking the fine print either way evoaps.

what a b@ll@cks idea that is :disgusted::mad:

A better idea would have been if they were to just do ALL of the following:

Crush the vehicle IMMEDIATELY (some offenders pay Traders to get the cars back from the impound by using Trade Cover Notes.......These days, many impounds refuse to accept Tradex Cover Notes as proof of Insurance for that specific reason).
Instant Permanent Ban
£5000 fine
6 Months Prison Sentence with no time off

That should be the minimum!!!

starting to freak out i copied this off my insurers website can you guys see any problems

If your certificate of insurance says so, we will also cover the policyholder for your liability to other people while you are driving any other private motor car which you do not own or have not hired or leased. This benefit applies to full licence drivers only. We will only cover you if:

* The vehicle is not owned by your employer or hired to you/them under a hire-purchase or lease agreement;
* You currently hold a full European Union (EU) licence;
* The use of the vehicle is covered in the certificate of insurance;
* Cover is not provided by any other insurance;
* You have the owner’s permission to drive the vehicle;
* The vehicle is in a roadworthy condition;
* You still have your vehicle and it has not been damaged beyond cost-effective repair; and
* Your occupation is not restricted by our acceptance criteria.

This extention applies while being driven within the territorial limits and only to private passenger vehicles. It does not include:

* Vans;
* Car-Vans;
* Jeep-Type vehicles with no seats in the back; or
* Vans adapted to carry passengers.

From what I can tell:

You are only allowed to drive other peoples cars as long as they are not insured by the owners! :wtf:

Get that checked out as soon as possible.

Don't loose the recording. That is strange that the car can't be insured by the owners??

That form is only to confirm that you turned up.

If the Officer who issued the Producer wishes to be thorough, he will inspect the Cover Note and then contact the Insurer to further Investigate.

A percentage of Producers are checked for Statistical Analysis.

do you think that it might come under the same sorn as car tax or a seperate one ?

cos surly if you declaire sorn then the tax is removed or expired so everytime you want to use it youll have to tax it ?

I sometimes tax the car for 6 months and just leave it taxed as tax is cheap and saves messing about getting in and out of sorn etc. Insurance is expensive (being a rally car) so I would only buy for a short term.

No, that is saying they will not pay out for 3rd party damage if you are covered by other insurance ie a named driver or any driver policy on the car. They are basically saying they are a last resort to payout and if another insurance will cover the loss they will not pay out.
You cant be insured twice effectively.

from my understanding of this they are just enforcing the current rules with a law. if a car is not insured at the moment it should be sorned off the road but there is nothing to enforce this so the police dont worry about the cars they drive past at the side of the road as long as they have tax but with this new law if you dont sorn your car or van and its at the side of the road you get a few nice fines and your car taken.

dont affect me if i stop insuring my car it always gets sorned anyway and parked in my dads compound
